So, as you can see from this picture, this baby throws himself against my stomach and stretches as hard as possible - my belly button bleeds from time to time 
The kicking and rolling don't bother me, but the attempts to escape are painful at best.
Other around me who have been pregnant are horrified/fascinated and have said they experienced no such thing.
Am I in for a non-sleeping, hyperactive child?? What was your experience?

Wow! And I thought my baby boy was active!
My Lo was pretty chill in my belly and was a chill newborn/infant.
Baby2 is 5x as active as my DD was.. He's not due until December though. Hoping he'll be a good baby like his sister was!

Woah. My DD never made me bleed, but she was super active. My appointments always took a while because she wouldn't stay still to hear her heartbeat. She's definitely a super active baby, but she has a very laid-back personality.

That is insane! ... just wow... and baby was active in and after, but nothing like that! She did move in similar ways after she was born, so I think there probably is some truth to it.

Wow! LO was never that active.
We did play when she was in my belly where she'd press her foot against my stomach and I'd go and massage it. Then I'd move my hand and she'd go to kick at my hand. I called her my little heat seeking missile. After a few times of her jabbing her foot around, she'd press it into my stomach again for another massage. When she was born we did the same thing outside of my belly, she would kick at my hands in the same patterns and then stick her little foot out for a massage. So I'd say take advantage of that active guy for some early bonding time!

woah!! DS was super active, like shark attack thrashing but not stretching out like that. maybe you have an athlete on your hands?

She was pretty active but I think it was because she was big and I had a lot of fluid even at the end so she could move a lot.
I would say now as a toddler she is pretty active but sleeps pretty well. She sleeps like 10 hours at night plus a two hour nap.

Wow!! I never had crazy movements like that. i'm so sorry he's causing you such pain! She was pretty good, didn't kick or fuss much in the belly. She's the same outside of the womb.

Woah!!! I can watch Harper roll side to side and it makes my belly deformed and lopsided for a few seconds here and there...It's her butt wiggling to either side of my tummy- But never anything like that!!!
I don't have any advice, just a "Woah!"

True confession, I put cold veggies on my stomach over my shirt to convince him to move back after I took this picture, I felt so guilty!! Thankfully he only seems to do that late at night.
I wish I'd worked out and developed some ab muscles before we got pregnant - I feel like they'd hold him in better!!!

@thehistoryofus that is reassuring! I have a decent amount of fluid as well (have had weekly biophysicals) and that makes sense that it would allow for more movement

I have to say my son was realllly active in the womb (but no crazy pictures like you had) and he is a very active and NOT chill 5 month old baby. He's never been chill and wasn't really a sleepy newborn, either. Sorry! But he's pretty awesome ; )

Wow! I've always wanted to see that from my boys but neither of them did that! I just saw subtle movements. I don't know if it's a myth but my oldest was mildly active in utero and he was such a calm baby and toddler and then when he hit 3 years old he just became wild wild wild! Like something clicked... "I'm a boy and I should be wild and crazy!"

Hahahaha, my DS was just like this! My husband could see him moving in my belly from across the room at only 18 weeks pregnant; it was crazy!
I'll say DS was really active and super strong in the womb, and those traits have continued on after birth. He's hit all his physical milestones early, and he's really big and strong. In fact, right now at 7 months he's starting to pull himself up to standing. I think we're going to have an early walker on our hands!
ETA: His sleep patterns are completely unpredictable because he's been an early teether. I think, if he wasn't constantly working on new teeth, he'd sleep a lot better, despite being so active during the daytime.

Another whoa!!! That is totally crazy. I never actually saw movements from my LO in my belly but I always felt these mini earthquakes and he had the hiccups all the time. Once he was born his arms and legs would twitch (the earthquakes) and he constantly hiccuped.
My nephew kicked in utero all the time and now as a newborn he's a crazy little kicker!

DS would do that too! It wasn't quite that extreme but you could see where he had his butt sticking out, usually on the side of my belly. He is also an active baby. We can't really co-sleep because he moves around way too much.

@aprk 'gross' was a little tongue in cheek, but yes, I am thankful that my body is accommodating my baby and able to stretch so far, even if it hurts and looks strange
@winniebee he is also absolutely adorable judging from that picture!
@honeybee I am glad I am not alone! I'll be interested to see if we have a similar experience in terms of the milestones!

My LO used to do something similar, though not as extreme.
she was EXTREMELY active inside the womb, and is a very active child. Seriously, she is ALL. OVER .THE. PLACE.

WOW! I haven't had that experience yet, but have you talked to the Dr. about making your belly button bleed? That sounds scary! And honestly makes me thankful for that anterior placenta I have now! ouch!
It seems like he will be pretty active from reading all the comments above! Maybe he will be really good at sports!

Holy cow- that's nuts! My son was extremely active but not to that extent. He kicked a lot- even until the night before he was born. And now he still has really "kicky feets" as we say and he is obsessed with trying to hold toys with his feet & toes. So I think it's a good indication your LO is going to be active. Nothing wrong with that- I like having a "spirited" baby :).

@shopaholic I mentioned it and she said it was from irritation externally, not anything internal. So I'm trying to remember to wear a bandaid My sister got an umbilical hernia and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I avoid that!
@jumpingjacks I'm 36 weeks.. but it's been at least a weekly occurrence for the past 2 months or so, just getting more distorted looking the bigger he gets! I don't think I'd have such wicked stretch marks if he'd settle down a little, LOL.
@dookie32 that sounds super cute! I was a busy, non-napping baby so I guess maybe I have it coming to me as karma.

Ha,ha, been there, I feel for ya!
My experience is play hard, sleep hard:
My son was super active at certain times of the day before he was born, and the same goes for the 9 months post-birth. He isn't crazy all the time, just when wide awake. He is very easy going and happy to entertain himself, but he can certainly keep me busy.
