@Mrs. Oatmeal: I'm in Ontario too I didn't know there was an app for Michaels! That's great, thanks!

@Mrs. Oatmeal: @Ginger333: how many are in that pack for that price? I got my 20 pack for $21 and my 36 pack for $31

@Bao: right?!? That's why I'm going to look for them when I'm in the States

I bought the staedtler markers at Michaels with a 50% off coupon so it was only $22. Much better!
Here are a few I've done so far. The skull was done with staedtler markers, the treehouses with prismacolor pencil crayon. Sorry I couldn't rotate one of them.

These are all so beautiful! I love that the pics just keep on coming!
I finally finished another page. We've been so busy lately I haven't had any time to do any colouring. Found a little bit of time over the weekend though, here are the results:

@Shizaz: great deal, and love your pics! @gentlelunette: mine take me forever as well, looking good! @.twist.: nice job!!
I'm about 10 minutes from finishing one of my lost ocean ones! Some I'm not sure I'll be able to do because of the detail...like I don't know if my pen will fit in some spots.

@.twist.: I was thinking of posting some from the book (unfinished) but wasn't sure if anyone would want to wait to be surprised if they were going to buy!

Well, look what came in the mail for me today! SO EXCITED.
Honestly, this book makes enchanted forest look like a joke. I thought EF was complicated and intricate and Lost Ocean is just so much more intricate and detailed. WOW. Flipping through it made me think it will take me the better part of my lifetime to ever finish the book!

@.twist.: haha I know! I looked at EF and couldn't believe how NOT detailed it looked. I know it's just because I was comparing the two, but still! Any idea which page you'll tackle first?

@Bao: I started the first page! I see tons that I love but it was the first one that kinda spoke to me. But not my favorite so I won't be upset if I mess it up!
Which one are you on now?

Gaaaah, y'all's pictures are so pretty! Life has gotten away with me and I need to get back into coloring! I keep forgetting because I tucked away in a drawer when people were coming over and I forgot to get it back out again! Lol. I love all these finished pages! Can't wait to see more!

Wow sounds & looks like this Oceans book is quite difficult! Maybe too much for my mommy brain to handle? Is it wishful thinking to take my coloring things with me to the hospital for after I have my baby?
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@gracecat: it is a lot more detailed but there are some easier pages! Amazon has lots of review photos if you want to check. Also if you do FB there's a few FB pages I'm a part of that show the pages people have done, it's really cool!

Attempting the cover and it did not turn out how I hoped with the blue in the center
For those of you who use colored pencils, any tips?
clementine / 878 posts
@Bao: I think it looks nice! what were you going for? I could maybe imagine trying to shade over it with color pencil, like darker deep blue at the bottom and slowly getting lighter at the top. I often look at real nature images to get inspired. Or other people's finished product of the same image. I like it as it is too tho, it looks like it has texture!

@Bao: I think, if you're trying to get away from the sketched look?, you could try pressing harder, which is tedious and makes your hand cramp but the results are nice. You could also layer a few different blues to make it pop. If you want the surface water to look lighter, go over the blue with white, hard. (just make sure to clear your white off on a scrap piece of paper as white tends to hold onto other colours and transfer them).

@gracecat: @.twist.: I just want it all solid blue but not looking so liney lol. I colored the top little section solid blue too. I first started out trying to do darker around the edges and then lighter in the middle but that completely failed. I'm a marker person for a reason I'm using prismacolor colored pencils though so they are decent I just don't know what I'm doing!

@Bao: yea, the lines are definitely because you weren't doing it quite as evenly throughout and not pressing hard enough. You could definitely try your shading out on some scrap paper. Try dragging your pencils, pressing hard at one and and very gradually releasing tension as you move across the area. It will give you a nice shade. The feature about prismacolors is that they're super soft and that is intended for blending purposes, so layer up your colours! Play around with different combinations and do edges dark with light centres and/or dark centres with light edges. Anywhere you do a light colour, add, hard, white on top (or experiment with greys as well if you want a darker look, sometimes I use more creams than white for blending because I feel it give a more natural look than the crisp white).

@.twist.: thanks for the tips! I'm buying a new book bc it's driving me nuts.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Bao: no probs. If you have any other questions I'm happy to answer them. I don't want you to give up on pencils because they're so nice once you get the hang of them.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@.twist.: haha I won't but maybe I just won't try out on the cover next time
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@.twist.: are there any videos you can recommend for shading/blending?
Got my new book, it was necessary I got a fresh start! Ha!

This is a great video. It's a little longer than probably necessary, but her tips are really on point.
She actually has a few videos on coloured pencils and they are cool to watch if interested enough.

@MaryM: hahahaha. I totally had to read over my last few comments to see where I made a pun. Obviously... I did that intentionally...
