Oh man, poor Ohio. My mom just came back from visiting my Gram there and said the sun didn't come out for the 5 days she was there. Uggghhhh.

I am NOT surprised by Detroit. Poor Detroit.

As someone from the Central Valley of California, I can tell you those places are truly miserable! Much more so than the big cities back East!

All of my midwestern life cities are on here: St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Chicago. I grew up in the Milwaukee and just didn't want to stay there. I love living in Chicago. The weather sucks right now, but the summer is fun. I wonder if Chicago as miserable is partly because of our messed up local government. Nothing like paying more for transit and having cuts at the same time.

Our city's always on the list. And the city itself IS a really shitty place to live, lol. But it doesn't take the 'burbs into account.

I'm not too surprised by the list... except maybe NY and Poughkeepsie... though I don't know much about Poughkeepsie as a city.

I seriously cannot believe that New York City is on that list. That is just absurd.

And I've heard Milwaukee is one of the top up-and-coming cities in the US (I think...unless that was Minneopolis).

I also agree that there's a few cities in Florida that trump several of those on that list!

i'm originally from NJ and while i'm not surprised that camden is on the list i'm a little surprised that Atlantic city is considering how small it is and how many of the residents can be seasonal.

I'm not in Detroit, but I'm not surprised to Flint & Detroit on top! >:T

While I LURVE my city, I can totally see why New York City is on the list. It's expensive here, can be crowded, super busy. The weather can be extreme with super cold winters and steamy hot summers. These things don't necessarily bother me, but I know that it could bother some people. Also it's one of the few cities that does require a city income tax. The flip side of that is that the property taxes aren't so high. This is definitely not a place for everyone, but it is for me.

@Lozza: I'm guessing they includde lots of outliers (like Woodstock and Acworth . . . which totally skews the commute time). But yeah, I have an Atl address, and my commute is really decent.

I can't believe Atlanta is #16. I love it here, well besides the traffic. That I could live without.

I am not surprised Ohio is there three times. I lived there for a couple years, north of Columbus and hated it. The sun doesn't come out in the winter, it was horrible.

Michigan makes the list it seems every year. I used to live right outside of Flint. Flint is trying to rebuild.

I'm sad for Detroit, it's really not all that bad. I'm a wimpy Canadian and I go over all the time, albeit in well built up neighborhoods/touristy areas. Maybe it's pity for our football team? lol!
