The University of British Columbia did a study on the happiest/unhappiest cities in America based on residents' satisfaction with life:
My metropolitan area is #2 on the happiest cities list. While #1 is in my state, only a little over an hour away. I guess we're a pretty happy bunch here in Virginia!

#5 on the 10 unhappiest list. Not surprised, although fortunately the suburbs of the city are much better than the city itself. Although it's still a shame that with all of the art and history in the city of Detroit, it's been overrun with violence that makes people nervous about being in many areas of the city at night.

If we're so unhappy why is everybody and their mother moving here? Please tell me that University of British Columbia. It would make me a little happy if less people moved here

Technically not on any of the lists, but I guess I would be the Springfield, MA region which is #8 least happy
