I can definitely understand why NYC is on there. Home prices!!! This place is not for everyone, it's a tough city... but I do love it.

Oh, and Atlantic City, every time we go there I think how horribly miserable that place is--not the casinos but the surrounding areas look down and out.

I'm from NJ and totally not surprised by Camden and AC. Camden is so depressing and scary I would never drive there at night time (and often during the daytime for that matter.) AC when you look some of the areas I can see it.

Poor Michigan indeed! I live just outside of Detroit and while I will defend the city and continue to support it, I am not even remotely surprised it made most miserable city in the US. The flip side though it the city has a lot of spunk, things happen here that you don't see in other cities (good things!) and the grass roots efforts to revitalize the city actually make a noticeable difference. The city has a lot to offer, I am amazed and saddened though at how many people refuse to set foot in it.

Aw : ( My little state is on there 3 times (Ohio)! It is sort of a sad state, but there are really fun parts of it too (Columbus for example). I'll just stick up for it a little bit and say that the people are what make it great

I spent a summer in Poughkeepsie one summer. It was indeed miserable.
