My birthday is in a few weeks, and I will be about 12/13 weeks. As long as the NT scan goes well, DH and I are thinking of announcing to our parents/siblings then. (With the added bonus that we will all be together, which is rare!)
Any ideas for helping us surprise our families?

Oh, what great timing! We just verbally announced it, but maybe your DH can give you a present while you're there that has something baby related inside. Or maybe you can you can say your birthday wish out loud while you blow out the candles.

My brother announced to the family while taking pictures when we were all together. He got everyone settled for a group shot and had everyone say "cheese" then he prompted us to say "SIL is pregnant!" He got some great reactions captured when everyone realized what he said.

I like @abbydabbydoodlebug: 's idea- have your husband give you a present/card "from the baby" and open it in front of your family.

I like the idea of either the cake saying something (and that might be easier at a restaurant where your family won't be peaking at it) or your husband giving you a gift that's a big clue. Maybe a gift card for maternity clothes or those super cute batman shoes I told you Target has

I also think that if you were to do a cake, they would bring it out whole if you asked. How exciting, I love announcements

We did this for DH's birthday a couple years ago when we announced. I had them write it out like a family tree, my name, DH's name, and then below was "coming 9/2013". It took them a minute, since they were all like "what does it say?" but it was really fun!

Like others have mentioned, we announced by acting like we were taking a family picture, but we really recorded the whole thing. It is something I will always treasure

@Crystal: We had actually bought a new camera and were hosting both families at our house for the Superbowl. We acted like we were going to take a timed shot (just propped it up on the counter) but were really recording the whole time.
I would think you could explain it to the restaurant worker, pretend you are explaining how to take a picture but let them in on the secret?
