Me! I got 18.
How has nobody answered this yet? I would have assumed that an internet board would be full of introverts...
GOLD / kiwi / 613 posts
Ummm ... 22 of them!
All but being married to an extrovert. We're both introverts, and you can already tell our daughter is one too.

Wow! I related to 22 of the 23 statements.....I have always known I was an introvert but people tend to think of me as extroverted in part because of my job and public speaking I have done
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
I consider myself an introverted extrovert! I can relate to 13/23
blogger / persimmon / 1220 posts
@mrswin: Same here! My job requires me to do a number of public speaking events and to be outgoing, talk to new people often...but I am very much an introvert.
coconut / 8305 posts
I feel the same as @chopsuey! I got 10/13 with a few of them being REALLY big for me like the public speaking being okay, but not the mingling and screen my calls (I seriously have to carve out time & prepare to talk on the phone... even with my close friends & family).
honeydew / 7444 posts
16/23. I always thought i was a bit of both, more an extrovert than introvert but i guess i'm really an introvert!
bananas / 9357 posts
20/23 I already knew i was an introvert though. I like the "riding their fun bubble" statement in regards to being married to an extrovert. I do that with friends too.
pomegranate / 3858 posts
16 for me! Ugh...phone calls. Hate them. I only call my mom every couple weeks.
watermelon / 14206 posts
All but two of those are me. I'm married another introvert, and I didn't get called out in class for it.
nectarine / 2765 posts
I am! Read this the other day but didn't count...it's so true that often introverts are hard to pick out. Until I looked further into the actual definition of an introvert years ago I always thought I was an extrovert since I have no problem talking to strangers and can overall be very social & opinionated. DH is actually the same as me.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Yes! I love these. I'm definitely married to another introvert though!
I agree with @LMOG47: it can be hard to pick them out. For years I thought my dad was an extrovert because he is so great with people, is very social, and always knows what to say to people. Turns out I was wrong! He told me a few months ago that we have a little "windup doll that goes out to talk to people, and when the windup doll is done, so are we!"
I'd never heard myself described so well, and I had no idea my dad was the same way!

I got 21/23! (Not married to an extrovert, and I don't go to parties.)
This one about screening calls really hit home!!
""To me, a ringing phone is like having somebody jump out of a closet and go 'BOO!,'""
nectarine / 2765 posts
@Bookish: the little windup doll is such a perfect analogy!
I enjoy going out, being social (even w/strangers) and don't mind big crowds even, but, when I'm done I'm done & must have my alone at home time. People & being social can be exhausting.
Eta: I read once that extroverts get their energy & recharge from being around others while introverts have to have their alone time in order to recharge. Explained to me that way, it made sense.

I didn't keep score, but that's me. I am totally drawn to extroverts: husband, best friends etc. When I gave my recent work place speech in front of 200+ people I was so happy I didn't have to stay and mingle during your lunch. The part about easily being distracted is so true. I need absolute quiet to complete any task. Multi-tasking is not my forte.
pomelo / 5509 posts
Me! I matched 19 out of 23, and it would have been 20 except for I didn't count the "Public speaking is less stressful than mingling with people" because I have a public speaking phobia, so both are equally terrifying!
I HATE small talk, I find it really awkward (making small talk with the hair dresser is torture to me); I dislike going to parties unless I know most of the people already or know several people I can hang out with the whole time; Can't network, suck at it; So easily distracted — SO is actually convinced I have ADD; I absolutely NEED down time; I completely shut down/zone out if I've been active too long — I tell SO "I'm starting to fade..."; I'm a writer!; SO is a total extrovert.
Yikes!
pomegranate / 3863 posts
19/23, small talk is one of my biggest insecurities!! I am absolutely horrible at it, which leads to many of the other points in the article.

Anyone else have an inner monologue running through their head? I thought I was the only one that ever did that.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
I fit 19 of the 23...
These ones don't fit me:
8. Giving a talk in front of 500 people is less stressful than having to mingle with those people afterwards. - Heck no. I hate public speaking!
11. You're in a relationship with an extrovert. - DH is an introvert too, but I think we're both pretty middle-of-the-road introverts and not extreme ones.
12. You'd rather be an expert at one thing than try to do everything. - I'm not an expert on anything.
15. You notice details that others don't. - Not necessarily. I'm not naturally very detail-oriented (more of a big picture person), but have come a long way since my job expects it of me!

I am TOTALLY an introvert. I used to be more outgoing and into going out butttt not so much anymore. I'd much rather stay in.
pomelo / 5509 posts
@Mrs Checkers: See I always thought EVERYONE had an inner monologue running through their head. I thought that was just normal! I can't imagine not having one...
blogger / persimmon / 1220 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Your No. 12 comment made me LOL!
@IRunForFun: Good to know! I can't imagine not having one either.

18 for me! Some I didn't realize would make me an introvert, but when I thought about it, it so does!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@petunia354: Agree about the small talk! I think that's why I married an introvert - so that he can do it for me!
@Mrs Checkers: I thought everyone had an inner monologue!! What do other people do with their brains when no one's around?

Yes, definitely me! My biggest introvert offenses are screening calls (even from friends) and hating networking.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
I always knew I was an introvert. I got 16 out of 23. Biggest thing for me is small talk. If things don't click with a person, I can be so awkward!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
My husband is one. I never understood why he needs to come home from vacation early in the day to have time to decompress. It just boggles my mind. Thankfully, I'm understanding him better now.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
Mega introvert here ( plus a social anxiety disorder)- but DH is also an introvert (who acts like an extrovert due to his job). Small talk makes me so nervous. And I would totally rather speak to a large group than to one or two people.
nectarine / 2433 posts
@Mrs Checkers: Hahaha I have spent my whole life thinking I was the only one with a constant inner monologue, good to know there are a few of us out there.
The one that rang truest for me was shutting down after being engaged for too long. I literally get agitated and panicked if we can't leave somewhere when I am "done". It doesn't matter if it a family event or something for work but as soon as I reach that limit I need to escape..... my poor DH doesn't understand

Another introverted extrovert. I love my alone time, but also enjoy people. I can't do small talk with another introvert (not enough of an extrovert to keep it going and gets awkward), but I can with an extrovert that can keep the conversation going. And I married an extrovert. I have been jealous of him at times because he's very likeable and he can shoot the shit with anyone, but I've come to realize that I have to get up and make myself a part of the conversation too.
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
I'm a textbook introvert. The phone one especially spoke to me lol.
bananas / 9357 posts
@Mrs Checkers: I thought the opposite-I thought everyone had an inner monologue. It's definitely not just you!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
I got all 23!! I'm married to an extrovert. He's so good at making friends and does so often. I'm terrified of the process of meeting new people and trying to organize ways to spend time together and I fear the awkwardness! I'm jealous of him!!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
@IRunForFun: I thought so too at first but I did some volunteer teaching at elementary schools for college and found it super easy to talk to kids in a group! I really owned it. But helping someone out one on one was much more difficult.
After that I somewhat got over my fear of public speaking.

So I read that article on wednesday and thought, shoot, I’m totally an introvert which according to this article may or may not be considered a mental illness???? I felt bad, until I read this article:
http://happyplace.someecards.com/25864/signs-that-you-are-neither-an-introvert-nor-an-extrovert
bahahahahahaha.
