Anyone here pregnant or had a pregnancy after having severe pre-eclampsia/HELLP in a previous pregnancy? I am almost 35 weeks and the anxiety has set in, anyone else dealt with this?

Not pregnant but I wish you the best. I had hellp syndrome when I had my son this past December and it was very scary. I assume they just monitor you really closely at this point? For you at 38 weeks I mean. How are your bps so far? Looking back, I felt so crappy all week after my Monday am appt (everything was fine) to Saturday when I went into labor and had high bps, protein, and platelets of 42!!! Just pay attention to your body and be kind to yourself. Nothing is too silly to have checked out by your doctor.
Wishing for a healthy safe delivery for you. @mrsjenbug

@mrsjenbug: are you pregnant with your first and having pre-e or hellp or are you pregnant with your second after having a high risk pregnancy with your first? It wasn't clear from your post. Are you worried about things getting worse? Definitely follow your instincts if you feel you need medical attention. At 35 weeks they will probably deliver your baby if there are any severe concerns.
I had complications related to pre-e with my first pregnancy that started in my third trimester and gradually got worse. I'm now 37w pregnant with #2 and have not had the same issues at all. I'm monitoring my BP at home and definitely feel like I'm waiting for things to get bad again.
I hope you and baby are both healthy and you have an uncomplicated delivery.

I had severe pre-e in my first pregnancy at 37 weeks.
I haven't had a second pregnancy yet but my OB said that having had pre-e before doesn't increase my risk of having it in future pregnancies much. Particularly since it is usually a disease of first pregnancies.

@ChelseaRose: I had HELLP with my daughter and am pregnant again. I'm further along than I was when I delivered her and I think I'm just getting anxious (wondering if the whole same scenario is going to play out again).
They are watching me closely this time and I'm checking BP at home. So far everything has been normal. My BP the last couple of weeks has been higher than previous but nothing 140/90.
Just worrying!

@Mrs.KMM: I think Hellp syndrome actually does have a higher likelihood of reoccurrence.

@mrsjenbug: No personal experience, but my SIL had HELPP with her first and had to have an emergency c section at 30wks. Her second was born via RCS at 39wks after a completely uncomplicated pregnancy. She had lots of extra monitoring but that was it.
Good luck!

@Mrs.KMM: when you've had HELLP there is around a 25% recurrence risk (the numbers are all over the place) but any kind of pre-eclampsia in a first pregnancy puts you at a higher risk in other pregnancies...but, it is primarily a disease of the first pregnancy.

@mrsjenbug: I had pre-e and HELLP with #1 (induced at 36 weeks). I had some moderate third trimester hypertension with #2. They watched me very closely, expecting it to turn into pre-e or HELLP, but it never happened. I was eventually induced at 39+0 because my OB and I felt that, at that point, it wasn't worth waiting for something else to happen. My blood pressures were ok through delivery, no magnesium - wonderful!
I hope that things go just as well for you!

My cousin had HELLP with her first child. Her second pregnancy was uncomplicated, but I know she was nervous going into her 2nd delivery after her experience with her first (long induction on magnesium the whole time). She went into labor on her own at 38 weeks and her son was born with absolutely none of the issues she experienced with her first. I really hope you have a similar experience!

@MrsF: I'm hoping for no magnesium this time around! That really impacted my overall experience the first time in such a negative way. Even my husband hated it.

@junebugsmama: this is true. Severe pre-e does increase your risk of having it again.

@ChelseaRose: My whole experience was SO much better without magnesium. I felt so sick with mag, and like I couldn't even think straight! I hardly remember anything about my first labor, delivery or the 24 hours after delivery. Without mag I felt like I was able to really be present the whole time (I had epidurals both times). I hope you can avoid it!

@MrsF: that's absolutely what my experience was like. I felt really detached and so out of it. I don't even remember much and it was all such a blur. I'd do pretty much anything to avoid magnesium. I'm due in less than three weeks and hope it all goes better this time. Thanks for sharing your experience and so happy for you that it went better!

@ChelseaRose: the magnesium is the worst! I was a zombie the whole time! You are so close...hopefully no complications!
I'm really hoping the same for myself. I just need 2 more weeks then I'm "term"! Just scares me so much...wish I could relax and enjoy these last couple weeks (and maybe get some stuff accomplished haha).

@mrsjenbug: I had just high bp with my first pregnancy and was induced at 39 weeks. With my second pregnancy my bp were normalish but I had the same high bp symptoms I had with my first and so they ran some lab work and I was immediately delivered due to the amount of protein. They induced labor at that point with pitocin and I had another natural labor
@Mrs.KMM: My midwife said that if I got pregnant again i may have kidney damage so we would have to have lots of extra monitoring. That was just my experience but I'd definitely be on the lookout for it in your next pregnancy. We're done so not a concern here but it really freaked me out when she said I may have kidney damage

@junebugsmama: @mrsjenbug: @sapphire: @jetsa: I'm just going off what my OB said. I had really severe pre-e (my blood pressures were 190-200 at their highest) and had to be on mag for my entire (failed) induction and for 24 hours after my c-section. And my BPs didn't go back to normal for a month post-delivery.
I can't speak to HELLP but my OB said that while I have a slightly increased risk of pre-e again for future pregnancies, that in actuality it really isn't hardly any more risk than any other person. Clearly they'll still monitor my BPs, urine, etc but he explicitly told me it wouldn't be something to worry about (I asked while in the hospital because I was concerned).

@mrsjenbug: I hope you make it to term or beyond with no problems.

I had severe pre-e and had to have a c section at 27 weeks with my son. I'm terrified to do it again. My OB said that I had a pretty high chance of having it again. She said the earlier you have it the higher your chance of having it again and having it once does increase your chance of having it again.

@ChelseaRose: thank you so much! Good luck with your upcoming arrival...prayers it is uneventful and everyone is happy and healthy!!!
