Mine came back as 200 today so my OB said no need to do the 3 hour test, you have GD!
I was an emotional wreck coming out of the doctor's office but now I feel better and I just wonder if anyone here had extremely high #s. I have never been diagnosed w/ any sort of diabetes but I do have issues w/ low blood sugar here & there.

Aw, that stinks (but at least you don't have to do the 3 hour!). We're thinking about TTC #2, and GD is one of the reasons I'm putting it off.

My A1C blood test at my prenatal intake appointment at 6 weeks was high enough to diagnose me with GD.
Good luck! I was really bummed about it but I had an ok time with managing my diet and blood pricks

The three hour made me vomit repeatedly and almost pass out, so while I get that the high numbers can be scary, not having to do the 3 hour is a plus! I'm similar to you in that I had no experience with diabetes but occasional low blood sugar (in fact, the last reading at my 3 hour was a 52, which is dangerously low!) My 1hr result was a 159.
The next step will probably be going on the GD diet and testing your blood sugars. Even with a high 1 hour reading, I think it's still possible you'll be able to control it through your diet alone, since obviously you would never normally dump so much sugar into your body at once! For me it was not enough, but that is because my fasting blood sugar reading is always high, it doesn't even seem to matter what I'm putting in my body.. But I've been able to keep it under control by taking a pill at night.

I'm not too concerned about the management of it - pricking finger, diet, meds, etc. I guess I was just shocked b/c everyone else was shocked at my # and then proceeded to feel really bad.

@MamaG: @snowjewelz: Thanks for asking, I'm getting through it. Sometimes I'm able to get blood pretty easily, sometimes it's more difficult and I do end up sick over it. I've been able to loosen up on the diet a little bit with the medication I'm on, so that had made it a bit easier - it's nice being able to have a treat every now and then. I still hate needles, but I guess I'm at the point where I've just begrudgingly accepted it and am doing what I have to do

@wonderstruck: Aww I am sorry it was making you sick! I cannot imagine this being easy at all. Now that I am in this GD world, I hope we will be able to encourage/support each other more!
@autumnlove: Thanks for the encouragement! I don't think it will be that bad either, I just can't figure out how my # is so high... Hopefully the blood test will give more insight!

Hopefully they can give you some more insight into the high number. I didn't have GD but I've been a diabetic for 16 yrs so I'm here for support.

@snowjewelz: It wasn't a bad experience, but it wasn't the most fun I've ever had 
Basically, it was just a pain - extra doctor's appointments (which stress me out at the best of times), making sure my numbers were good, excessive meal planning, hauling snacks and meals to work, etc. I'm guessing they'll test me earlier if I were to get pregnant again, so I'm not looking forward to even more appointments, that's all. I had a good outcome - LO was 5lbs 8oz at birth (via c-section - breech).

@RsMom: I can't imagine the daily struggle you must have! Thanks the the support! I always thought diabetes is in my future even tho I was never diagnosed, since I've had blood sugar issues for a long time.
@tinyperson: I can totally see why you're already not looking forward to being pregnant again just b/c of all that related to GD! But I wonder if you're actively managing it on your own now, if it will help not being diagnosed w/ it later on?

@snowjewelz: not doing anything right now, but I would like to lose weight, so I've considered going back on a modified GD diet for a while. I had a follow up glucose test pp, and I was normal.
I don't know that doing anything differently while not pregnant would affect a diagnosis of GD - it has to do with the hormones blocking the effectiveness of insulin. I've heard a lot of stories of athletic, clean eating people receiving a diagnosis of GD, and they were already low-carb, etc.

@snowjewelz: I've been really lucky that it has been fairly easy to control and it just becomes part of life. I did find that when I was pregnant it took more effort because of the increased testing and I required a lot more insulin, but because of it I watched what I ate and gained very little weight which was nice.

@RsMom: True, there's def a silver lining to it! Without it I would not watch what I eat and prob get yelled at for gaining too much weight!

I was told I had GD at 9 weeks. I'm 18 weeks now. If you need anyone to chat with, feel free to wall me or anything.
I had 170 for my 1-hour test and did the 3-hour test. I believe I failed all 4 of my blood draws by a few points each but failing is failing.
I'm surprised they didn't give you the 3-hour test. I thought it was standard since the 1-hour test is just a sample that you didn't prepare for.
I will say I was pretty upset at first since I didn't have it with my first (I had 3 1-hour tests through out that pregnancy and still passed all of them) but my mother has diabetes so that's why they tested me early.
One thing I read when this happened to me is that it is NOT your fault, it's pretty much they way the placenta attached to you and the larger it grows the harder it is to maintain your sugar with diet and exercise. Pretty much once you give birth and they remove that sucker you should be back to normal.

@Raindrop: Thank you!! I think at this point I rather just go ahead w/ the treatment then go through the 3 hour test lol. Now all the more, I cannot wait to give birth!

@snowjewelz: I failed my one hour test pretty miserably. I think my number was 189? I had accidentally fasted, too, so the number was especially concerning!
I was 26w when I took the test. My doctor said if my result had been over 200 or I was 30+ weeks, they'd automatically treat me for GD.
I did retake the 3 hour test and I did pass. She also gave me the option of testing my sugar for a week instead of the 3-hour... Maybe see if that's an option for you?!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: huh.. Well I guess if I have to get a reading daily multiple times, they will know if my #s dropped a lot and if I can be re-evaluated. I'm really glad you could retake it and you passed!!

Yes, this happened to my SIL. I don't know what her levels were, but they skipped the 3hr test and sent her straight to the nutritionist to discuss how to regulate/monitor her diet.
