I wasn't one of the original April 13 mamas, but ill play if you don't mind! It's crazy to me that I'm already actively planning K's first birthday party... *tear*
LO's Birthday: 4/24
Boy or girl?: girl
Party Date: 4/26
Time: noon
Location: a campground we frequent
#of guests: a lot. Not sure exactly, but we both have big, local families
Theme/colors: You Are My Sunshine (pink, yellow and orange)
What's on the menu?: hamburgers, chicken on the grill, fruit, Popsicles....typical grill out foods
Will there be cake?: yes! But I need a healthy recipe with no (or very little sugar)... Anyone have a great go-to, kid friendly cake recipe?
Anything else you would like to share? Photos?
What are you planning, @cmomma17: ?

Yikes! I'm in denial.
LO's Birthday: April 22
Boy or girl?: girl
Party Date: April 12
Time: I'm struggling with this.... I really want her to be able to get a good nap in before, so I was thinking maybe 1 and I will just keep her up until about 11, and she can nap until the party starts? Interested to see how you all are handling it
Location: my parents' house
#of guests: inviting 15 and 3 kids
Theme/colors: I daydreamed briefly about a rainbow colored fiesta, but honestly can't justify the cost of going all out, so I think I'll just cook some good food and buy some flowers
What's on the menu?: chicken or bean soft shell tacos with toppings, guacamole and chips, and probably a fruit salad of sorts
Will there be cake?: yes. My husband and I discussed, and decided that although we've restricted her from sweets so far, birthdays are a special occasion and we don't want to get into any kind of good food / bad food dichotomy (even this young). Having cake on your bday is one of life's great joys
I'm going to make cupcakes, I'm thinking yellow with blackberry frosting, and chocolate with peanut butter frosting (we'd probably give her a yellow w/ blackberry to dive into)

LO's Birthday: 4/18
Boy or girl?: boy!
Party Date: 4/19 (Saturday)
Time: TBD, but likely early afternoon.
Location: my in-laws house
#of guests:probably just 9 of us! Immediate fam/grandparents
Theme/colors: no theme, but I'd like to decorate with bright springy colors (blues, greens, yellow)
What's on the menu?: we will be eating lunch so I'm thinking hummus, black bean dip, guacamole, baked beans, Mac n cheese, fruit, veggies and pita for all the dips/spread, maybe a cheese platter? Mostly foods LO loves (he's a bean a holic)
Will there be cake?: yes! I'm nervous about the sugar aspect though. Will it make LO sick if he's never had any? I love to bake so I was thinking I'd do a funfetti cake from scratch. Probably cookies too.

@MrsRoo: I wasn't one of the originals either! I love your theme! How sweet! Hopefully you get great weather! Perk of a spring baby, right? I'll keep my eye out for healthier cake options!

@Silva: I was in pretty serious denial until about a week ago. Now I fluctuate between excitement and sadness!

@cmomma17: hows sleep been? I assume a little better if you have the energy for party planning
honeydew / 7811 posts
@Silva: umm, no. We have never STTN here. I'm still nursing two-three times a night and semi co-sleeping. Our party will be WAY small. I'm trying to take advantage of my small bursts of energy/excitement. But I haven't actually done anything yet! Other than ask MIL if we can use her house, and make some hellobee threads! I'm amazed by women who do manage to pull off big amazing parties. They probably are sleeping way more than us!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@cmomma17: haha- I was just teasing. We're down to one wake up most nights. Two nights ago it was 5, but for the past 5 days its usually been just 1. Its amazing. I hope you get there soon.

LO's Birthday: 9th
Boy or girl?: Girl
Party Date: 6th
Time: 11:30
Location: Local Park
#of guests: It's out of control! 50+. Am hoping not everyone comes.
Theme/colors: Onderland/Pink Ombre
What's on the menu?: Sausages. Antipasto, vegies and dip.
Will there be cake?: HELL YES! The feature is the desert table. Which will have a mad hatter cake for display. 2 pink ombre naked cakes, cupcakes, whoppee pies, blondies, macaroons, cookies. Oh man I *love* cake!
nectarine / 2591 posts
@MrsRoo: Those colours look awesome together. I love that theme.
@Silva: LO usually naps 9 - 11 so that's why we are having it at 11:30. I didn't want to mess with naps either. What time does LO usually nap and is she ok when her naps get messed with? I know DD would not deal well with a delayed nap. Blackberry frosting sounds delicious!
@cmomma17: I worry about the sugar too but DH said since we are doing a cake smash it is silly she can have cake there but not at her party. I am getting her her own cup cake (my friend is the baker) and he is paleo so we'll see if it's normal or paleo. Haha
@heartonastring: Pink and gold is gorgeous!!
@sslm: That sounds stressful!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@sslm: yikes! I didn't know you guys were moving. What are the prospects?
@AprilFool: all that stuff is so cute! I can't wait to see your party!
So right now T usually naps between 8:30 and 9, usually just for 45 minutes. Then she naps at 1 for close to 90 minutes. But she can be flexible, particularly if there is stuff going on. We've skipped morning nap a few times when we are out doing stuff, and if she is entertained she does well.
So I was thinking I'd just do one nap that day, but make it on the early side. The other tricky thing is we will be staying at my parents house, so it could all be a little unpredictable (and her naps seem to be constantly in flux)
cantaloupe / 6397 posts
@Silva: we are hoping to move back to my hometown! But time is a ticking and we only have 2 months until the big 1!!! So I'm thinking we'll probably still be here and I should start planning.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@sslm: how exciting! That's further east, right? We are 3 hours from Montreal....
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@Silva: navigating around nap time is always tricky for us too. I seriously feel like all I've done for the past ten months is calculate our days based in nap times....I can't wait for the day when we switch over to one nap per day!
pear / 1642 posts
@Silva: I like your cake theory I'm just so nervous to give her sugar for the first time! My LO usually naps for 2 hours around 10 and wakes up ready to go, so thr why we chose noon. Then we will have a while before she gets cranky and tired. Although I'm sure she will have no interest in napping at her party!
@cmomma17: thank you! I'm afraid I'm actually tempting fate by having an outdoor party with a less than ideal back up plan in FL in April...
@AprilFool: thank you! I love the pink ombré! And I hope you take lots of pictures of your desert table!! I wanted a onederland theme originally, but as our party is at Disney World, my husband thought it would be overkill. I'm jealous!!!!

LO's Birthday: 8th
Boy or girl?: girl
Party Date: TBD
Time: 3pm
Location: TBD
#of guests: 50plus...blah lol
Theme/colors: Bubble Guppies
What's on the menu?: I'm thinking chicken, pasta salad, fruit salad
Will there be cake?: Absolutely!

I am all over the March birthday thread, but I'll come share here, too!
LO's Birthday: April 5
Boy or girl?: Girl
Party Date: April 5
Time: 4-7pm
Location: Our house
#of guests: 40ish
Theme/colors: turquoise, pink, and silver glitter
What's on the menu?: Um...lots of food. cream cheese+jelly+cracker dip, bbq smokies in the crockpot, pink dyed deviled eggs, korean pork tacos (and I will make some kimchi side dishes, maybe jap chae? Thoughts?), cupcakes, mini brownie bites, cookies, blue lemonade, a pink ice cream punch, and beer. We have enough food, right?! Haha.
Will there be cake?: Oh yes. What good is a party without cake?! Cupcakes for the adults, a sugar-free banana cake for E. I don't want to make her sick.
Anything else you would like to share?: Photos of party supplies! A friend of mine is designing the invitations and I am super psyched to see them! And E's bday dress!
nectarine / 2591 posts
@heartonastring: I so agree. This 3 hour window in the middle of the day to do things is a killer. I am held hostage by naps!!
@Silva: Since T is flexible and only naps 45 mins anyway you probably could push that nap. It will be good to have your parents there. One person can be in charge of entertaining the baby while everyone else sets up.
@MrsRoo: Your party is at DISNEY?? I just about died of jealousy!!! I have tried to keep Alice out of it... just kept the tea party bit but the onederland pun was just too cute.
@blackbird: Love the photobombing cat. Haha That dress is adorable!!
@sslm: They are from here https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/127333146/pink-ombre-birthday-party-invitation

@AprilFool: lol, yes! We tent camp at the campground there a few times a year and are just silly Disney nerds. I'm so so excited! A bunch of our family and friends are camping the whole weekend, it's going to be awesome!
I want to see every picture from your party! Tea parties and little girls are just about the best thing everrr.
honeydew / 7811 posts
@sslm: oh no! sorry you’re stressed about a potential move. Could you just make some decisions that would work no matter where you are (like a menu, colors/theme, buy/make some décor)?
@aprilfool: you had me at “dessert table”
@mrsroo: sending you beautiful weather vibes!!
@crisark: love your answer to the cake question!
@blackbird: I love your colors! And I love the blue lemonade and pink deviled eggs – such cool touches! Can’t advise on the Korean food though, as I’ve never had any!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@sslm, thanks! It's a sickness, really, lol.
@cmomma17, I was thinking maybe even a salad would be good, but honestly...I feel like with appetizers and dessert, we do have plenty of food and people don't "need" stuff to go with the tacos.
I'm taking a half day Thursday and a whole day Friday off work leading up to it. My mom is coming into town Thurs so we are going shopping and she's going to help me prep and stuff. The cleaning people are cleaning the house Wedn, so I know all the bathrooms and such will be sparkling! We'll end up trashing the kitchen, though. Sigh. Such is life
honeydew / 7811 posts
@blackbird: I'm so lucky. LO's bday falls on good friday this year and I'm already off work! (paid vacation day too!). And I took off a half day on that Thursday for a dental cleaning! lol So I will be ready to go by Saturday (or I better be!)
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Nice! We don't get that Friday off, anyways, but I have a lot of vacation and am looking forward to it
pear / 1642 posts
@blackbird: gorgeous colors! I'm not a fan of deviled eggs but I would make an exception for pink ones!
Do you already have a recipe for the sugar free banana cake? It sounds like what I'm looking for for K.
nectarine / 2591 posts
@MrsRoo: That sounds so cool! I loooooooove disney!!!! The only thing that keeps me away is distance. That will be an awesome first birthday. Will you take her to the parks while you are there?
@blackbird: I am trying to not have too much food. So many parties I have been to lately had so much left over. Am only have a dozen of each on the desert table. If you snooze you lose ;). So I think you would be fine with just tacos.
@cmomma17: I SAHM but I have gotten DH to take a weeks vacation so he can help with last minute details and also so he can come to her cake smash and be home on her birthday. I don't want to be running around the morning of like a crazy woman.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@mrsroo, I'm going to try this one: http://www.fitmamarealfood.com/babys-first-smash-cake-healthy-no-sugar-banana-cake/
it has everything in it that I KNOW she likes! I actually think I may make it to try it myself, though, first I wouldn't mind giving it to her now, either.
honeydew / 7589 posts
@MrsRoo: I'm currently testing a bunch of healthy cake recipes and will post a round up on my blog within the next couple of weeks. I'll wall it to you when I do!
honeydew / 7811 posts
@Arden: ooh wall me with that too if you don't mind! the sugar free banana cake is such a great idea but of course bananas are the ONLY thing my LO is allergic too! Wah!
