Way too early to find out but I feel that I am going to be a boy momma. 
Therefore, I am paying attention more to our boy names at the moment. (DW is rolling her eyes and refusing to discuss til we find out the sex so humor me here!!).
Can I please have your HONEST opinions on our number one name choice: Gus. Full name August but wouldnt go by that. Would love to hear honest feedback (good and bad) since we are not telling anyone IRL!

I went to school with a Gus. He was gorgeous and smart and we still made fun of his name. That fat mouse from Cinderella had some staying power.

@whenoceansrise: Thanks for your opinion! Another option would to have the baby go by his middle name (first name August). I am just worried calling him August might sound a bit pretentious?

I love the name August because it was my great grandfather's name. I wanted to use the name if we ever had two boys (DH wants to have a Jr). But DH doesn't really like it, however if he gets to have a Jr I get more choice in our second child's name (if we even have 2!)
As for Gus, I think it's cute but I also am not sure if we would use it as nickname.

I have to admit Gus does remind me of the Cinderella mouse, but I kind of like that. I always liked that mouse, haha. Nowadays Gus also reminds me of the Fault in our Stars book. You could always use Augie as a nickname? That's the shortened version of my college's name so I was partial to that if we went with August.

@wrkbrk: Not sure if this is even on your radar but the guy in "Fault in Our Stars" is Augustus so that name (close relative to the name you're thinking of) is kind of having a weirdly trendy moment.

We have a family friend who named their son Gus. It's a family name. They also have a Bjorn as a cousin, so they're into strong Norwegian names.

DH has a family member who has a 4 year old named Gus. It's short for Augustin, which is a family name. I think it really fits him! He's got a head full of curly hair and is super cute. If I didn't know a Gus I would probably think "meh."

I like August and love Gus. I normally wouldn't see it as a grown up name but there is a very cute character on shameless named Gus. Made me more of a fan.

I love it but I'm biased! My DS name is August and we call him Gus. We have gotten a lot of positive feedback on it from friends and relatives.

I love them both - had August/Gus on my list but they sound odd with our last name. Still think it's a super cute name, familiar but not common.

@wrkbrk: he is a new character and Fiona's love interest. Actor is well known but has a beard so I didn't recognize him. It's Steve Kazee who portrays him.
Also a note about nickname Auggie. The book "Wonder" has a great character named Augustus nn Auggie. It is extremely popular YA book. Actually my favorite book of all time. The boy is extremely disfigured in the book, as a heads up.
I don't think that or character in TFIOS is a reason to not name him this. But it may get more popular.

August is a month of the year to me, not a name. Gus is cute but I do think about the mouse from Cinderella first.

I like both August and using Gus as a nickname. I do think of Gus from Cinderella, but I like that. I had a young student once named Gus, and I would call him GusGus, just like they did in the movie. I also like that August is an old-fashioned type name. Both my children have names which peaked in the 1920s. The suggestion of using "Augie" as a nickname is also a good one - the younger brother on the Disney channel show "Girl Meets World" is named Augie (it's the follow up show to "Boy Meets World", so the kid is the son of Cory and Topanga).
