Do you get comments from strangers specific to baby wearing? I think it's funny when people don't notice at first that there's a baby in my wrap until she makes a peep or they see her head. But the best by far was when a store employee approached me and said "wow I thought you were carrying really high, but then I realized she was already born!"

I get people saying, "well, that's a neat idea!"
Oh, and one lady told me she should get something like that for her little dog, lol.

I have had people mention that it is so cool to have such easy ways to transport the baby that they did not have in their day.

I was wearing my son on my back and carrying my daughter in my arms as I ran into a park district facility for a little gym. I used to work for the park district and ran into an old coworker who stopped and chatted a bit with me. He fussed over my daughter a bit and when he turned to leave he stopped and said "you've got another back there??" It was pretty funny!

When C was very little and I had her in the moby, a lady said something nice about the wrap and how smuggly she was, then said she was so glad to see her facing in and how she hates seeing babies face out. I was like, well, thanks, but she's less than two months old and has no neck control so she's not old enough to face it anyway, but different things work for different babies....? I actually have always worn her face in because that's what she and I both preferred but I felt the need to stand up for other moms!
When I have had C on my back, especially this winter, I get comments but all nice, like how happy she looks. And when people saw me get her on my back by myself I always got compliments like, whoa that's advanced baby wearing!

I've never gotten any negative comments or truly "peanut gallery" comments while/on babywearing, but when I was wearing my toddler at Disneyworld earlier this month 2 different women commented on my "poor back" and how uncomfortable I must be. Umm, if it was uncomfortable I wouldn't be doing it! Trust me, I'm not a martyr!

DD2 likes to throw her head back when she's in the Ergo, and strangers love to express their concern over this (not always nicely) - she's just squirmy but people always feel the need to tell me "your baby is off kilter" or "that can't be good for her neck". It's annoying but I shrug it off and try to assume they think they are being helpful, not critical.
And like @twodoghouse: I get lots of comments about how full my hands are when I'm wearing my younger daughter and pick up my older one on my hip (which happened a lot, especially when DD2 was first born). Yes, NO SHIT I have my hands full!
Although sometimes it's actually people complimenting my mama skills, not just making dumb small talk, and that sort of encouragement I will graciously accept any day! -
The only peanut gallery comment I ever got was an old cranky man who told me I need to "buy that baby a stroller." Umm, he has a few actually but sometimes its just easier.

@PinkElephant: that's probably my least favorite comment: "wow, your hands are full" really? I didn't notice.
I haven't heard anything negative. One time I got whistled at while baby wearing...that was weird.

I've had multiple people confirm with me that I am in fact putting her in a car seat when i'm driving and that i don't drive with her in the wrap. Thanks for the tip, guys!

I only once got a comment from a coworker about how he must be happy to get out of prison when I took him out. I almost always get these "aww how cute" smiles or "what a great idea" comments. I'm part of a babywearing FB group and I'm always surprised by people talking about getting dirty looks!

When I wear her I usually get a lot of "she looks so cozy!"'s or "that's the right way to travel!" Kind of comments. I wear her most often when it's raining or bad winter weather during our commute on the bus so there was lots of jealousy that someone wasn't carrying them, lol

Today I had someone ask if I "made it like they do on the internet" about my baby in the woven wrap when I told her I bought it she semi clarified by repeating the same thing with hand gestures showing she meant did I tie it myself. It was pretty funny and I was totally confused for a minute.

I get a lot of people, especially 50s+ who are really impressed. I live in rural Ohio though, where it isn't terribly common.

I've stopped people to ask what kind of carrier they were using if I liked it. But I don't get the people who make rude comments. Wtf?

I never had a rude comment while baby wearing! All were positive- things like how cool or cozy it looked, people who wished they'd had something similar back when they had kids... I did have one who also thought I was still pregnant when I wore my 2 week old on the money- it wasn't until he wiggled his foot out of the bottom and the lady freaked out for a minute wondering how he got his foot out of my belly hahaha. It was hysterical.

Someone today said "that looks complicated." But it didn't bother me at all. He was being nice trying to help with my toddler while I wrapped DD.

@Anya: I've had older ladies comment how nice of an idea the Ergo is. I have also had, on two separate occasions, people offer to help me empty my grocery cart at the checkout when I was wearing her. I was floored by their genuine sweetness. Even more so because we have a great routine and move quickly, so they weren't asking simply to speed me up.

@Dandelion: omg this lady at Home Depot had her little chihuahua in a carrier! The dog was facing outwards and it's legs were sticking straight out. It was TERRIFIED. I couldn't help but laugh tho bc it caught me so off guard.

@TrailRunner: my aunt borrows my maya ring sling for her dog haha! He's really clingy so she likes to carry him and thinks baby carriers are the coolest thing

With DD1 I had older men comment on several occasions about how I was "keeping her close to the food."...
I also get many many comments about how people initially thought she's in my shirt and a few weeks ago I heard one mom "whisper" to another mom about how she "wouldn't trust that thing".
Although sometimes it's actually people complimenting my mama skills, not just making dumb small talk, and that sort of encouragement I will graciously accept any day! Reply
