Hi, we are travelling to Hong Kong this October with my daughter. We have an uppababy vista and I’d like to bring something a little more lightweight. My daughter is NOT a stroller napper, so full recline is not a priority to me. She is 17 months now and will be 20 months by October. Tell me what to get!

It’s not cheap but the Yo-yo is so
Lives up to the hype. My MIL wanted to buy a big ticket item for baby 2 but of course we already had a lot from DS1. So I said well...there is this travel stroller I’ve wanted.
It folds to size of overhead bin on plane. Very light and has shoulder strap. Sun visor is pretty good considering it’s size. It does recline pretty well (but I agree, my son isn’t a stroller napper either so we haven’t used that much).
He is almost 17 months and we’ve been using it since about 6 months.
Oh and I love that I can hang things on hooks like diaper bag or groceries and it has never tipped. My Vista tips! But this doesn’t.Now if you want something at a lower price point, look at Zoe strollers. We had one of those for my older son when he was just too big for the Vista (he looked silly) but we were in NYC and had a decent walk to school every day so we needed something. We only used it a few months. I sold it when my MIL offered to get the yo-yo
but otherwise it was a good stroller. See a lot of them around NYC and people rave.

My husband is also 6'4" and we LOVE our Summer Infant 3D Lite. It was recommended to us by a friend with twins specifically because my husband is tall; his feet still kick the back a little bit sometimes, but it's worlds better than any other light/umbrella stroller we've tried. It's not terribly expensive; we got ours brand new from Amazon for $65 on a sale.

I love out Summer Infant 3D lite, my husband prefers it to our regular stroller in fact.

We like our 3D lite a lot also! I always use it for travel but I used to walk my oldest to school with it also (with a 2yo in it)

We also have the yo yo and it’s amazing for travel. It’s actually our only stroller and we walk all around San Francisco in it. I love it.

We have a nano and really like it! We compared it to the yo-yo in store and didn't see the difference between the two, esp given the price difference; the 2 negatives I've noticed in the year we've had it are that the basket underneath is very small, and the sun shade doesn't do much (lo2 complains about it...). it's great otherwise.
eta we used to have a g-luxe and I like the nano WAY better. didn't compare it to the minu because that wasn't out yet when we were buying. our "regular" stroller is a cruz; I'd get rid of it and just keep the nano except that the big basket is better for taking to the park full of toys and the grocery store

bit of a thread jack here, but one question i have for the yoyo users is whether the wheels have held up over time? we got a nano about three years ago because we thought it looked just as good as the yoyo for half the price. we have loved it, but after three years of heavy travel use (cobblestones, city streets, etc), it has become a real b*tch to push. my mom actually refuses to use it when she's taking the kids places because she can't turn it. has anyone had their yoyo for long enough to say whether the wheels are more durable? with a 3 yo, 1 yo, and another on the way, we're going to need a travel stroller for a while yet and i'm thinking of springing for the better wheels this time.
i also like that the yoyo has a ride-along board that the other travel strollers generally don't.

@nwm: We’ve only had the yo yo 16 months but it is used daily for walks up to 3 miles. Wheels are a full in great shape and our daughter seems comfy in it.

@nwm: yes, the yo-yo wheels have held up, but I’d say they’re really not meant for prolonged use on cobblestone - I try to use one of my bigger strollers on that sort of terrain. I have the original yo yo (so it is 5 years old), and I’ve used it pretty much exclusively for the past 2 years (we moved to the burbs and I stopped carting my big bugaboo around in the car) - so it is my in a pinch/mall/school activity/travel stroller. It is hands down amazing for travel. The one handed steering and tight turning radius are key, and it’s sold enough that I’ve hung an infant capsule on the mommy hook off the handle with my toddler sitting in the stroller.

That said - I used to live in Hong Kong and didn’t use my Yo-yo there. Depending on where in the city you’ll be, sidewalks are really bumpy, and you’re on the side of a mountain - there are stairs everywhere. I’d personally stick to a stroller that you can bump up and down stairs. I do think a yo-yo’s wheels would take a beating there. I would hate to spend $$ on a new one and immediately subject it to that.What about a backpack? We used our Osprey Poco Premium all the time in HK for hiking/adventures; DH used it as his regular transport for our kids easily until age 2-2.5.
Around HK, I had a used Maclaren Triumph as a travel stroller that folded easily for busses - not nearly as good of a push as the Yo-yo, but ok if you can use both hands to push (not hold another child’s hand), easy to bump up and down steps, light enough to lift over curbs/railings, and since it was used, cheap enough to not be devastated if it gets really scraped up.

I researched travel strollers a lot prior to having second baby and I chose the recaro easy life. I LOVE it. It is super light , folds up so compact , my husband is tall and I am short and we both manage with the height. It has a one hand collapse / open function. Another feature I love is all four wheels are double wheels and have full suspension = easier to push and smoother ride for baby. I'm so happy with it. Plus, it looks great !

Thank you so much for all the recommendations! I am going to do some research on all of those options. We may stick with something cheaper like the summer infant but I’ll see if I can find one in store just to push around.
It’s definitely an option for me to babywear, but I only have an ergo and she gets hot quickly. She’s only 17 months so she’s still a runner and doesn’t listen very well. I think a stroller is required!

We have a mountain buggy nano and I’m totally happy with it. It’s not as great to push and steer as the UB Vista but the small size makes up for that. I bought it before the yo-yo was out so never compared.
@nwm: the first generation of nano strollers had a wheel issue where the front wheels would lock unexpectedly making it impossible to steer- especially on bumpier surfaces. Is it possible that’s the problem? They sent me a repair kit and it hasn’t been a problem- but we definitely don’t use it as much as you. It was our keep in the car stroller and I used the vista for the heavy duty stuff while the kids were little.

@Eebolleh: we have the 3D lite which I think of as the standard model? Wow to the mini being half the price - but I’d want to try it in store to make sure it doesn’t feel too cheap. We used to have a 45$ umbrella that was very decent (first years) but I like the 3D lite a lot better in terms of how nice it feels, how it drives, basket size, etc. However if you only plan to use for one trip it may not matter, I think it may factor more into wear over time and using with a heavier kid.
I’m not sure what the plus adds so can’t speak to that

@bhbee: thanks! I went into toysrus today and they only had the 3D lite in store. I was thinking maybe I should order the mini and check it out. It’s even lighter than the 3d lite. I’ll check the summerinfant website as well, but I’m in Canada so prices are always higher here

@Eebolleh: ours is the 3D lite. The mini was a few inches shorter and the basket was smaller and so the cheaper price and lighter weight didnt make it worth it for me.

@Foodnerd81: ooh--maybe! that's a good tip, thanks, i'll check out if that's the issue. we also use our UB for the heavy duty stuff generally, but on the trips we've taken it on it's gotten enough use that i assumed it was wear & tear.
