What book format would/did you choose to build your LO's library with? We have a bunch of board books that only come in that format (like touch and feel and single word books) but we only have a handful of regular books. I'm thinking about classic stories (like Eric Carle books for example) and wondering if it would be better to own hardcovers/paperbacks in these so LO can enjoy them when he is older? I'm curious how others built up their LO's libraries!

Both! She's only 2 so I still prefer buying her board books. But when I buy from from scholastic it's typically paperback but can't go wrong with $1 books!

We have some of all three types. Hardcover books get really expensive if you buy them new (and resale prices are also higher), but for some books, I want the longevity and feel of hardcover and don't mind paying more. I have some well-preserved paperbacks that were read many times during my own childhood, so they aren't necessarily doomed to a short life!

We have a collection of board books that LO is allowed to access herself any time, a collection of paperback children's books out of reach but displayed so that LO can choose one to read *with* us and we are also building a collection of children's classics like Enid Blyton/Roal Dahl that we will read *to* her when she gets a little older.

DS was gifted quite a few books at his baby shower and they encompass all three formats. The age appropriate ones for him right now happen to be all board books. We'll see how the non-board books one hold up when he's a toddler!

LO is 22 months, he has a huge library of books, they're usually boardbooks (that I can throw in bins) and hardcover books that I stick on picture ledges.
