i'm afraid that they test once, you pass, and then they don't test again and then you could develop it right after the test. =T i am prone to eating tons of sweets. i can't stop. =(

I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about it. Just eat healthy to offset the sweets! Lots of veggies and lean meats.
Hope your DH is feeling better now?

I feel like if it were an issue, they would test again. You could always ask your doctor just to make sure.

@chopsuey119: haha yup, thanks! i "moved back in" tuesday! i should have disinfected everything, but i got lazy. and so far, i feel fine. we did change the sheets though. and he bought me some automatic soap dispenser (love it!) so i wouldn't touch the soap haha.
@artbee: yeah, starting now, i have to see my doctor every 2 weeks! so i'll ask her then to see what they do to make sure i'm okay. =)

I have seen babies (working in NICU), that their Moms passed the GTT (glucose tolerance test), that present like a gestational diabetes baby (large for gestational age, appearance wise "look" like infants of diabetic moms, difficulties maintaining blood sugar requiring IV treatment when they shouldn't have issues). I do think that there is some change you can have glucose tolerance issues that crop up after the 28 week screening, but I wouldn't think it is a common enough issue to be overly concerned about.

I'm worried about this too because I tend to eat a lot of sweets too! When you go for your checkups, do you do a urine test? I do one every time and I think they check the sugar and proteins...? Not exactly sure... I would just try to control it for the time being

I haven't worried too much since like @Enjollah said, at each dr appt they test my urine for glucose.

@enjollah: yes, they test my urine each time i go, but i always thought they tested for UTI. the medical assistant did make a comment about the urine looking good after the glucose test though, so maybe they can see the breakdown of sugars just by looking at urine?

They use a dip stick to test your urine at every appointment for protein and sugar so they will catch it, or atleast they should. I dont think you get GD by eating too many sweets, its more an issue with the way your body processes the sugar rather than your intake of sugar. atleast I hope so because I cant stop eating chocolate raisins

@Mrsbells: oo thanks! good to know! Jellybeans are my current weakness right now! I need to get rid of the Costco size jar in my kitchen! So easy and tempting to grab a small hand full everytime I pass it!
