We are in the middle of setting up autism testing/diagnostics for Cameron. I just found out that we qualified for an intake appointment with the Department of Developmental Disabilities next week. I know this varies quite a bit from state to state, but I haven't found many details online about what to expect. Does anyone have any personal experiences to share about the process? HB has a great blog entry about it, but I'd love to hear more experiences from those regarding autism or chronic health.
I did learn that we will need to get a formal diagnosis completed by 5 years since they do re-determination of needs at 6.
The school has never really made a move or offer towards evaluating him for autism, even though both his teacher and SLP recommend it. The appointment today with our developmental nurse practitioner gave us a good reminder that we have to push and advocate for everything with the school and state.
