I'll freely admit that I've been slowly building a stash by buying a few at a time when I find decent discounts. They'll be put to good use someday!

I keep thinking about it, I can't decide what kind I want though! I love the idea trying out a stash from a place like Jillian's Drawers so we have a better feel for it. I definitely have accepted and even solicited any hand-me-downs of all other things baby, I figure I have the space to I may as well stock up!

@mrs. bird: It was a little weird for me too but when I got the first one DH and I had fun figuring out how all the snaps and inserts worked! And I kind of like adding to my room of baby stuff every so often.

@bluestriped bee: We found it helpful to make a list of things we want to buy at some point, both major purchases to watch for on sale and small things to add to Amazon orders. Then way when I'm about to buy something I might not necessarily need, having that list helps me to think twice about where that money could be going. The upside of a long TTC wait!

I noticed some places will have codes for a free CD with purchase...you probably don't get to choose what you get but it might help you figure out what you like!

@spaniellove: i have a private amazon wishlist where i keep track of all the baby things i want to get, i might visit it more often than i'd like to admit to watch price fluctuations

@bluestriped bee: our second bedroom, my former office/current junk space/future baby room if we get KU before buying a house is my baby crap hiding place, the closet has enough goodies to make anyone think i've lost my mind. whatever, it makes me happy, none of it will go to waste & i've stolen from it to give items as gifts. if i can get something i know i want & love for 75% off now, why wait to buy it? people waste money on worse things.

@mrs. bird: If you go to camelcamelcamel you can check an item's price history on Amazon and set an alert to notify you when it reaches a threshold. Although checking often is fun too

I was about 6mo along when I hit jackpot - a mom of triplets was selling her infant prefolds and med size FB for $60! I highly recommend building a stash once you're in the 2nd trimester. (I've become a little superstitious since the only pregnancy I bought baby stuff for early, I lost at 7wks.)

I started when I was TTC :-). I bought some covers from another bee, and I went to a local CD store and bought a few things. I also did a ton of planning out for what diaper system I wanted to use and how much it would cost.

I spent a TON. Of money on diapers, so I was happy I had that much less to buy when the time came, lol.

Sort of. We did gDiapers and I started buying them when I was 7 months pregnant when I saw good sales or won them off of ebay/craigslist. They are expensive when purchased new, so it can definitely be a good thing to buy bigger sizes ahead of time. I had a really good stash with all the sizes by the time DS was 9 months old.

I didn't buy anything pre-baby... I was too superstitious. What about putting money away into a separate baby savings account?

@bluestriped bee: Which ones are you considering? It seems like everyone has very specific wants/preferences when it comes to CDing. Personally I wanted a diaper than contained messes well and could go in the dryer. Oh and I knew I did NOT want to stuff pockets. Doesn't seem to bother most people though. I ended up going with mostly fitteds and covers. Majority of the covers are Thirsties and I have a bunch of fitteds - mostly GMD, but some Thirsties, Swaddlebees and Bamboozles thrown in. I also bought a bunch of the inserts you just lay in (like Flips) because I love the thought of the convenience and I'm hoping they're a good option once the amount of poop slows down.

@bluestriped bee: Yeah, I'm torn on the prefolds too. I bought some GMD smalls for burp cloths and thinking I could padfold them if I need extras. But I didn't want to commit to having to fold and snappi/pin them. My entire goal was to make things easy and contain poop, lol. I didn't really want to go with so much sizing either, but the GMD newborn fitteds are pretty inexpensive, comparatively.

@bluestriped bee: I got 12 newborn no-closure. I figure that when they're newborns and have runny poop at almost every change, it was the most important time to use fitteds (which supposedly do a great job of holding things in).

@bluestriped bee: Yup, I got the GMD fitteds (and a bunch of others). I didn't really worry about preemie sizes. The GMDs say the newborn fitteds fit preemie to 11lbs, so I figure we're probably good. If he needs preemie sizes I guess we'll just use disposables longer (I intended to stop after meconium was gone), or rush some prefolds or something. I did however buy some super small newborn covers that happen to fit preemies too, because from what I've read getting the covers small enough when they're really tiny is essential to not getting leaks.

@JoJoGirl: Which diapers did you go with? You're in the Boston area, right? Are you going to Diaper Lab?

@JoJoGirl: Man, that really sucks. I was adding up the costs of what I've spent and wondering if a newborn rental would've been a better idea! We have pretty much all fitteds + covers, but I have like 5 different kinds of each. I hope if one type doesn't work, the others will. Oh, and I love Diaper Lab :). I bought my mei tai and a whole bunch of diaper stuff there.

@JoJoGirl: I'm *hoping* the fitteds and covers work better than the AIOs. Which fitteds didn't work for you guys?
