I gained a lot of weight with my first..my 2nd I haven't gained as much by this point (19.5 weeks), but I started out the pregnancy heavier. I still had about 20 lbs to lose to get to my 1st pre-preg weight.

I gained over 70 pounds with my boys. Yes, I was carrying twins, but if you asked my doctors they would tell you that I gained way more than the recommended range (35-45). But you know what? I gave birth at 37 weeks to two healthy boys - 7lb 1oz and 6lb 9oz. My body was doing exactly what it needed to do to grow healthy babies. So yeah, I felt like a blimp at the end but I wouldn't go back and change it because the end result is so worth it, stretch marks and all.
And all the weight plus a few pounds has fallen off (I'm 11 mo pp), so I say don't stress about it! The important thing is making sure your baby is healthy!

I was up 60 when I delivered. I did Crossfit, i ate pretty healthy (better than most, at least!) and I'm within 2 lbs at 8 months pp. I retained water like whoa.
But if you know that it's because you're not putting the right things into your body, that's a different story, and that is something that you can change.

I think I blew up for my first...30 something pounds and it felt awful on my frame.
Didn't gain as much for my second.

@Danizaur: I think in those threads about low weight gain we tend to forget that everyone has different body types and starting weight/heights that make a huge difference in terms of gain. Personally, my pre-pregnancy weight = your post pregnancy weight. See what I mean? So when you have a higher starting weight, you may not gain a lot. I think you look fantastic and not like you blew up at all.

Yep. I gained about 80 lbs. EIGHTY. I hate even admitting that!!! I retained water like crazy. I started weight watchers at 6 weeks pp and I had already lost 40 lbs by that point.
I'm about 15 lbs BELOW pre-pregnancy weight now, and M is a week shy of 8 months

@autumnlove, I don't think 30 pounds (the normal range) is considered blowing up, lol

I gained a lot for my body size. Now that I look back at bump pics I can see how bloated my arms, legs, hands looked. Thankfully a lot of the water weight came off quickly (within a few weeks) postpartum but I dreaded getting weighed at my appointments!

@MrsKoala: Yes! I think the pre-pg stats get left out A LOT on the *how much did you gain* threads . . . and it really, really, makes a difference!

I gained 50 lbs! I feared I would never lose them! I lost twenty by the time he was 2 days old, twenty more over the course of the first three months. The last ten hung around until he was about 1 year old. I was ten pounds over my ideal weigh when I started TTC and I have been chopping away at those. I am 4 lbs away! So just wanted to say, gaining a ton of weight has no bearing on whether or not you will lose it quickly! I worried so much about my weight gain and for no reason!

@blackbird: ya, but I'm short and my Dr made me feel guilty after I passed the 25 mark. I changed Drs for pregnancy #2!

I ate well and walked everywhere (always opting for stairs), but still gained almost 40lbs with DD. It all melted off quickly and I was back to pre-preg by 5 months, even 10 below pre-preg at about 8 months pp. This time around the OB is already warning me to not gain that much and I wish they didn't focus so much on the number, but on a healthy baby. Though I did say I wanted a VBAC and she's suggesting less gain to help my chances of a VBAC. Blah...

I gained about 60 pounds! I retained a ton of water and had giant feet and ankles. My face looked big and my arms were big.
