At the first firm I worked at, my secretary was pregnant. Apparently just before she announced, a male attorney with two kids privately told her congrats and that she wouldn't be able to hide it much longer. It wasn't meant in a rude or offensive way either. She was a heavier set girl and even after she announced, it took a while before I thought she really looked pregnant.
So, did anyone call you out?

Yes! A client of mine who hadn't seen my in a whole asked me if I had good news at 11 weeks right in front of my very gossipy receptionist. In pretty thin and I wore a tighter shirt that day and by the Afternoon, I was probably poking out a bit so it was on my own fault!

@LindsayInNY: yes, a coworker of mine. It has happened since 5 weeks. She has been relentless. She is convinced I got pregnant on our trip to Europe (which she is almost right about). I keep denying it but I know she knows!

When I was about 10 weeks with my first, one of DH's aunts told us congratulations at a family graduation party we were attending, even though we weren't planning to announce for another few weeks (nor at someone else's party!). I didn't think I looked pregnant yet, but apparently she did.

Yes, apparently there were several rumors going around after a management meeting about upcoming staffing issues. Someone just assumed I was pregnant and began telling other people. The whole office "knew" before I had a chance to out myself. While it wasn't malicious, because of my history I did feel very uncomfortable with the presumptuousness of the whole thing.

Yep! A coworker did. Infact, she asked me before I even knew. She is the reason I went home and tested just to get the BPF. Apparently I was "acting pregnant". AKA hormonal, tired, and sick.

@Reese: OMG that's ridiculous that she keeps doing it! I work with a lady who had IVF twins and knows about our struggles. So I fear she'll pick up on it if I'm around her too much. So I've been trying to avoid lol!

I called someone at work out who was trying to hide her second...she was waiting for her manager to return from time off, and she was 4 months along at the time and so obvious, at least to me.
I didn't say anything until after she announced, but she knew I knew from the way I looked at her tummy one day.

@babycanuck: I definitely want to tell work before they can tell. My dentist's receptionist is like 20 weeks with her third and hasn't told. There's no way the dentist can't tell! He has two kids himself. I just think it's something that should be told before it's obvious?

We stayed with friends last weekend and I was falling asleep the whole time and getting emotional at things which is not like me at all. I was only 5 weeks and was not ready to say anything but they kept asking all weekend. Finally DH convinced me to just tell them. They were not at all surprised

Someone asked me when I was nine weeks because I kept complaining about the smell of Bourbon at an event. I hate bourbon and the scent was making me nauseated. I was going to announce the next week, but I hated being called out publicly.

Yeah i had a female coworker call me out on wearing a maternity shirt at 11 weeks. I had to give a presentation and had no other options.

@TheReelDeal: a similar thing happened to me, though just a few management people, not everyone at work knew. One person had overheard me on the phone with the doctor and told her boss.
Other than that, no, but when i announced, my MIL told me she knew because my face had gotten fat 
other than that i barely showed until the 3rd tri so if not for my fat face i probably could've hid it longer

@Pirouette: That is appalling to tell when she'd overheard a private conversation with a doctor. I accidentally heard one of my male coworkers telling our boss about his wife (I was working late and obviously they though the suite was empty). But I just didn't say anything, and faked being surprised when he told me.

Yep. My grandma always knew when people were pregnant before they said anything. She told my mom I was pregnant on the day she died - I took the test, which was positive, the day before haha.
The third time was pretty noticeable by 10 weeks so people started asking early on.

@Little Misters Mom: I was furious! i mean, she could have at least given me the heads up so i didn't try to hide it for another few weeks before i was ready to share the news. but what was done was done, so i had to let it go. you handled that situation exactly the right way!

@LindsayInNY: it's one thing for people to suspect but people who are going to "call you out on it" are a special breed. I think when you are glaringly obvious and my mentioning it... It's just awkward (?) I will have to tell my work when I am about 12 weeks. My schedule is booked months in advance and it will take a lot of planning and scrambling when I go on mat leave.

1st time no. 2nd time yes. I share an office and my coworker figured it out when I was about 6 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately I get bad indigestion when I'm pregnant and she heard me burp. So she politely asked me. I went ahead and told her. Another coworker saw me eating crackers and joked I was pregnant again. She saw my face and I couldn't lie. I told everyone at 8 weeks after I saw the doctor. I'm short and show very quickly.

i had friends coming up to me at a wedding to check if i was drinking. and a coworker actually said to me in the elevator "you've got a bun in the oven" the day before i took my test and got my bfp! so bizarre but she was right.

Yep, I was out shopping with my mom and we ran into DH's chatty aunt, she called my MIL right afterwards and asked her if she had some exciting news to share. I was about 10 weeks, and already had some major bloating going on which was hard to hide.
My first pregnancy I had severe morning sickness so it was pretty hard to hid, anyone around me for a couple hours could tell since I was puking constantly and had no appetite and only ate grilled cheese sandwiches.

My neighbor across the street has an uncanny ability to detect pregnancy. She asked me about #2 about 30 minutes after my positive test and asked about our first at only a few weeks along.
Although now she is 2 for 4, she's asked me twice since #2 was born, better be wishful thinking cause I'm nowhere near ready for a third anytime soon.

yup, lots and lots of people with both. I am small, look pregnant immediately, and have HG so basically no one doesn't know by about 6 weeks. It was really bad with #2 because I was having a lot of bleeding and absolutely didn't want to talk about and someone asked me every single day at work, pretty much.

Yes, a coworker of mine. I worked at a restaurant, and sampled things frequently. One day he came up to me and asked if I was pregnant. I said not as far as I know. I hadn't even tested yet. Sure enough over the weekend I took an FRER and got a BFP. I went back into work telling him that he was right. He was floored and so was I. Lol

I was just called out this weekend at 13 weeks. But I don't feel obligated to tell people. I don't feel like a pregnancy needs to be "announced".

Nobody, and I would have been pissed if they had. I worked pretty hard to keep it a secret and was rewarded by totally stunned reactions when we did announce, which was pretty wonderful. All these interactions on this thread are so rude! Don't people know better?

Not to my face but my boss asked one of my co-workers if I was pregnant with my first before I announced. I was in my second trimester by that point but didn't think I looked that pregnant but I guess I must have! I pretended like I didn't know she had asked when I told her shortly thereafter. My office is pretty gossipy so there is usually a lot of talk about whether someone is pregnant or not ahead of time, but no one ever straight up asks!

When I (uncharacteristically) refused a glass of wine at Thanksgiving my aunt asked me if I didn't want one or if I couldn't have one. I was almost 15 weeks and we had been planning on telling everyone at some point that day anyway, so it wasn't that big a deal...I was mostly surprised that it took 15 weeks for SOMEONE to call me out on not drinking.

Yes! I teach high school and a bunch of my students were asking questions like, "When do you want kids?" to try to get me to tell them I was pregnant. A few even asked other teachers, who promptly told them they were rude (they didn't know either!). When I told them, about 50% said they knew already. Apparently I looked like I should have been very thin but a had little bump. I'm just glad none of them came out and asked me! I told them at 13 weeks.

Yes! My coworker asked me around 6 weeks "you're pregnant again aren't you." and I was so unprepared for someone guessing that early that I admitted it (but she kept it to herself until I was ready to announce!)
