I'm worried about people rubbing my bump at my shower. My mom thinks I should allow everyone to touch my stomach since they're buying me gifts.
LO doesn't kick super hard yet and DH hasn't felt him kick yet. And the moment a hand is on my stomach, he stops moving completely. So I don't think anyone will be able to feel him kick. And I really want DH to be the first one to feel LO kick. My shower is 2 weeks from now..

This is a pet peeve of mine. No one should be patting you if you aren't OK with it. I don't care if it's a shower and people are well-intentioned. You have a right not to be patted. Just tell your mom it makes you uncomfortable, and not to encourage it.
I was pretty clear with people that I found this weird ... and it wasn't a problem

if you're a huggy person, hopefully guests will ask first at least. and maybe you can keep your hands clasped across your belly. or tell people you're ticklish or not comfortable with touching yet.

I did not touch the mama-to-be's belly and I don't recall anyone clamoring to do so either. Unless your mom invites people to do this, I doubt anyone will touch your belly without asking at least.

@mrsjyw: ditto this... I didn't have any randoms (friends of aunts, co-workers of MIL, etc.) at my showers, so I was fine with everyone there getting a piece of the bump.

Hated when random people touch it, but at my shower, I was ok w it...although I can't remember anyone touching it... Except my sil....she had to measure my belly to see who cut the string the closest to my size.
I say if your so hasn't felt the baby kick by the time the shower rolls around, just keep something around your belly so people don't feel invited to touch. Or just mention that u'd prefer no touching.

Everyone there will be close family and friends but my big issue with it is that DH hasn't felt him kick yet and call me crazy, but I reallllly want DH to be the first (aside from me obviously lol) to feel him kick. LO is pretty funny when it comes to hands on the belly, he freezes but I still just don't want to risk that that one time someone's hand is on my belly he kicks!

It was just a couple people and they were family, so I was ok with it. I have an issue with the ladies at work that think it is ok, to just touch it.

I don't like people touching my belly...just dh, since it's his kid, too, lol. At my shower I got lots of hugs, but no one ventured to try. I'm just not a touchy feely person, and I think I give off that vibe, lol

I don't think anyone did, but I was giving off a major "back-off" vibe since my stomach was hurting that day. Plus I had my own hands on it most of the time.

I've had people touch my stomach (mostly hubby & close friends & family, and most ask first). I"m really weirded out by people doing the extended touch (like trying to get her to kick). My hubby thinks its really weird that I won't let anyone (including my mom) feel her move, but I just feel like it's something personal between the two of us and I also think it's weird for someone to just sit with their hand on my stomach waiting for her to move...

The first time I touched a baby belly was at my friend's shower in the fall of 2011 and she told me I could... while we took a picture she kicked! It was SO INSANELY COOL. I couldn't believe it! MY SIL was pregnant then too and was really good about letting FAMILY sit and feel her baby for him to kick. I thought it was awesome, but I always asked first. I think as long as you feel comfortable with it, and DH has felt him kick, it should be fine if people ask. I can't imagine not asking though!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd probably just walk away if someone tried to extended touch my belly.

Yes, I knew who the culprits would be before they did it, though. I was better about my family and close friends touching me than a stranger!! They couldn't feel her kick, I was moving around so much, she slept the party away (I think).

Only my in-laws who have no boundaries touched my stomach. No one else tried and I was relieved! Although one aunt gave me an extra long hug and said she was trying to feel the baby with her stomach, haha. That was kind of funny.
Despite the face that my in-laws are super gropey, I'm happy that baby has NOT cooperated with them! I'm annoyed that they touch me, so I'm happy that baby goes quiet when they do!! I just say he's shy when they ask, but secretly I'm gloating on the inside about how well behaved my baby already is, haha. I'm so mean...
I just had a work shower and one of my coworkers said that people rub the belly at showers, and I said "No they don't" very clearly, haha. I didn't want any of my coworkers touching me!

I'm a touch-me-not and I don't recall anyone trying. Guess my body language came through on that one. The only people I can remember touching my bump were DH, my two sisters and my BF. And only after asking first, except DH, of course
