I'm not really a coffee person, but I'm a huge diet coke/diet dr. pepper drinker. I mostly cut it out in the first trimester - I had the occasional can to try to relieve a headache without taking Tylenol, but probably no more than 5 during the entire first trimester. Now that I'm in the second trimester, I've been having a caffeinated diet soda a few times a week.
also, I totally agree with others - the smell of coffee was so disgusting to me during the first trimester!

I'm totally a coffee person, and need it, as I start work at 6am.
That being said, today I cut it out....and boy, am I suffering!

I rarely drank coffee in general before LO was born, so I didn't drink it. This time, I didn't intend to cut it out, but the thought of drinking it made me sick. I still drank other caffeinated drinks though.

I don't drink coffee, but I had one Diet Coke a day for my caffeine.

I drank coffee! I switched to half-decaf while pregnant, but continued to have soda and iced teas and other things that had caffeine. I just tried to stay under the 200mg limit, but sometimes I know I went over.

I didn't give it up. I can only really drink one a day, anyway, which is well within the safe level for pregnancy.
Plus, there are problems with most coffee substitutes. Green tea can interfere with folic acid absorption (and still has some caffeine) and most herbal teas have an ingredient that some authority will tell you to avoid.

Not a coffee drinker, but I totally had Mountain Dew during my first trimester and my doctor was totally fine with it - just said to limit it to a moderate amount and to not go over 200mg of caffeine a day. A can of Mountain Dew has about 50 mg, so it really wasn't a big deal like people make it out to be.

I did not cut it out on purpose, but I had an aversion to hot beverages, so I did not have much. I did have a lot of ice cold soda, though, and resumed a daily cup of coffee when it appealed to me.

I cut it out during my first pregnancy- now that I am in my second I don't think I can... not with a toddler and WOH

I kept my caffeine intake under 200mg a day, but no way was I going to cut it out.

I abstained from all coffee the first trimester (per IVF instructions I was given) just to be "extra safe", but after that I had one cup a day.

I didn't during the first trim, but I did throughout the rest of pregnancy

@pinkcupcake: I'm in my first trimester and have switched from coffee to chai. It's not too bad so far, but I have only known that I'm pregnant for 4 days!

I had a major aversion to hot drinks in my first trimester, so I stayed away. I still had lattes on occasion, though. I just watched my total caffeine intake.

I was a one-cup-a-day coffee drinker before getting pregnant with DD, so I didn't make any changes. After she was born, however, my coffee intake crept up to 2-3 cups a day. I am good with 2 now, but really fear going back to one when I get pregnant again (I feel safe at 1 every day, 2 some days...).

I did not drink it but only because I had an aversion. I still don't like it at 22 weeks, which is shocking to me! I do like iced coffee though so I probably have one of those once a week or so.

I can't kick the coffee habit... I've been having my usual 1 cup a day.

I had a cup every day during my entire pregnancy pretty much. I'm more of an 'everything in moderation' person.
