Nope. I'm not against it, just didn't have anywhere to go!

I will be flying from Nashville to NJ when I'm about 16 weeks.

I flew internationally during my 1st tri. It sucked! At the time it wasn't as bad as I expected but looking back now, I wouldn't have done it IF we had the option to cancel. I would have postponed it for a later date.
They also tried to force me to go through the shady new airport scanners (not the regular metal detectors). I called their bluff and held my ground, they ended up just patting me through. Pffft!

@Crumbs: WOW! Glad you didn't go through those Xray machines!!!!

I flew from DC to LA at 16 weeks. It wasn't too bad though I was still dealing with terrible morning (all day) sickness. Flying from DC to FL at 30 was much more uncomfortable. @Crumbs: They tried to force me through those too... after what seemed like an unreasonably long discussion about it, they finally agreed to a pat-down. I found that the male TSA agents were MUCH more sympathetic than the female agents... strange.

I flew to Vegas when I was 11 weeks and to New Mexico at 26 weeks. Both were cross country flights! The New Mexico flight was a little rough bc at the time I had really bad back pain.

I had a short-ish flight in my second trimester (3 1/2 hrs) and had no problem. I did have some swelling on the flight home and can only imagine how much worse swelling would be now.

I flew at 8, 15, 21, 29 and 31 weeks. They were all between 5-8 hour flights, and second tri was definitely the easiest time, though none of them were horrible.

I voted for all three. I was in San Francisco in my first trimester, took a few trips in my second trimester and one trip in my third to New York. I was supposed to travel this week to Las Vegas but I canceled it after I got back from my last trip and my ankles were enormous. I also started having tightening in my belly while I was in NY and freaked out. Everything was okay but I didn't want to have to deal with that again.

@Crumbs: Are those new scanner not safe for pregnant women? Or you just refused as a precaution?
I'll be flying internationally at 19 weeks. I'm not too worried about it. I didn't even think about those new scanners until some of you mentioned it.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@mrskc: the airports say they are safe. Who really knows, though? They're so new how can you really know? Eh, whatever. I went through them. Not much to do about it now.

With my first I flew from NYC to Paris at 29 -30 weeks. With my second, I flew from NYC to Vegas at about 25 weeks.

I didn't fly at all during my first pregnancy... we're not big travelers in general. But this pregnancy I have two trips planned-- one at 27 weeks (cross country) and one at 32 weeks (down to Florida). The trip to Florida is to visit friends whose wedding we missed during the first pregnancy because I was 32 weeks pregnant at the time! This time I'm just going for it because it will be our last chance in a while!!

In my first trimester I flew from Maine to New Orleans and in my second trimester I flew from Maine to CA. Both times I threw up basically the entire flight, despite having taken Rx anti-nausea before the flights. So I've refused to fly since lol
I wouldn't be worried about the airport scanners. Pretty sure you get exposed to more radiation while flying than going through the scanner.

I flew from Australia to Chicago at 10 weeks and the return trip at 12 weeks - a 29 hour journey each way! I found it fine and no different from making that trip when not pregnant...except I couldn't enjoy the mini bottle of wine with dinner!
I've done a few more flights of the 2 to 3 hour variety at 23 weeks and 25 weeks. No problems with any of them. I didn't have any problems with security either - I just said I was pregnant and they let me go through the normal scanner instead of the full body scanner.

Yes I flew in my 3rd trimester. I would have preferred not to but there was a family event I didnt want to miss. It was a total of 4 flights within 2 days and I wasnt very comfortable. By the time I got back home my feet and ankles were swollen HUGE.
It was uneventful tough, I didnt go through any scanners. I just told them I was pregnant and they did a pat down down instead.

I flew a ton while I was pregnant. Baby girl literally obtained elite status in United Airlines in utero. The first time we flew was to Hawaii when I was 4 weeks pregnant. The last time was a cross country trip from California to Boston and back just before 32 weeks.

@Ree723: WOW! Amazing that you survived the international flight! I can't handle being in the air for more than 5 hours!

@Ree723: wow, you must have had baaaad connections! I hate the long haul flight.
I flew in first and second trimesters. If I was in the US I think I would refuse to go through the scanners as well. I know they say they are safe but it would just scare me. Plus I am against them on principle!

Flew at 14 weeks and was the lucky one in my group to be selected for the new full body scanners. I opted out and all the tsa agents rolled their eyes and sighed and echoed "OPT-OUT!" Now I hope that LO doesn't have to to through one or be patted down.

I didn't. I never had a need. We almost went to AZ over Christmas but we couldn't afford it.

I flew long haul twice! Once right at the beginning (I think it was 6 weeks MAYBE) then at 19 to get back home. Both were over 20 hours from A to B. I had to swap seats with someone on the way back, so I could have the aisle seat though!

I flew in all trimesters, twice long haul, once 2 hours. No problems at all.

@mrskc: The FDA says they're safe, but some experts think they are so new that they're not measuring the amounts of radiation properly.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backscatter_X-ray
The other kind isn't supposed to be as controversial : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millimeter_wave_scanner
But ...
"In March 2011, it was found that some of the full body scanners in the US were emitting 10 times the normal level of radiation" -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_body_scanner
It's better safe than sorry, imo - especially when it was just my 1st tri and they couldn't tell me what type of scanner they had. But even if they could, I would have asked to be padded down anyway.

I flew around 21 weeks to Europe for our baby moon. DH was really nervous the whole ride and made sure I was walking around the cabin at least every 1.5-2 hours to prevent blood clots. I was nervous about those new X-ray machines but security never gave me any issues about avoiding them.

Went to Vegas 2nd trimester. Woulda loved to go somewhere during third but was feeing not so great and didnt want to risk preterm labor... 1st trimester, I had nasty morning sickness so was of most of the time.

@mamabolt: let me know how it goes! I'm so nervous to fly at 32 weeks!

I'm flying this weekend and I'll be 13.5 weeks. I'm also flying in 2 weeks--both for weddings in TX!
