We got one extra fun u/s in the 3rd trimester. We couldn't imagine not seeing the baby between the anatomy scan and birth! Funny thing is the "fun" scan was cheaper than all the others!

Nope. We got a dating scan & then another to check my placenta placement.

We didn't get any extra elective ones at a place other than the doctor but because of complications at the beginning we had quite a few with E.
We won't be getting any extra elective ones with this pregnancy either.

No. I wish we'd been able see him more
We had a dating scan, the NT scan and the anatomy scan.

I thought about getting an elective one done in the 3rd trimester, but it looks like we're going to be getting them often at the MFM office. I'm 19 weeks and I've had 5 so far (another one in 2 weeks).

With #1 we just had the NT scan and anatomy scan
With #2 we had a dating u/s, NT scan, anatomy scan and then a scan to monitor fetal growth.
All were ordered by the doc. We didn't do our own elective ones

i had one transvag dating u/s, then the anatomy scan.
we chose to do an elective 4d in the 3rd trim

We had a few extras, including a level II and luckily the issue is resolved.

I had an elective 4D u/s with DS1. It was really fun. I had a 12 week u/s and two anatomy scans through my hospital too.
I don't plan on having any this time. I've already gone to my anatomy scan and they did 4D as part of the scan. I also had an u/s at my last OB appt because LO likes to hide. I'll be having weekly u/s for the last 8 weeks of my pregnancy to check fluid levels so I don't think I really need any extras this time.

No elective ultrasounds, but due to various issues, I ended up with 8 ultrasounds and 2 fetal echocardiograms. I didn't mind though, and thankfully everything turned out just fine in the end.

I was high risk so I got many!! In the last 10 weeks I was going to the doctor 2x/ week and had a very unactive baby so a lot of the time they would do an ultrasound just to make sure he was still doing his thing in there...

No elective ultrasounds.
I had a dating ultrasound at 10 weeks, anatomy scan at 19, growth check at 24, they thought they noticed the esophagus/stomach may not have fully attached so I had another just to look at that at 26 weeks, and another growth check at 32.

We had to get one once a week towards the end. I have so many photos!

Yep I had several in the beginning b/c of spotting. Last one was our anatomy scan. Always loved getting a peek at the nugget!
watermelon / 14206 posts
Wit DS I had 4 scans, I think.
With S, I had the dating scan and then an elective one to find out she was a girl. I totally wish we had gotten more ultrasounds, for a variety of reasons.
Next pregnancy I'm going to be in ultrasound mania. More than most people get, because of my history with both of my other pregnancies.

I had two transvag u/s at 7 and 9 weeks for dating amd to make sure of progression. I had recently had a mc. Then I had the NT and anatomy. I had to have another at 31 weeks because they didn't get great heart shots at the anatomy scan. I'm 33 weeks now and I think that is all I will have. I've loved seeing the babe grow. The NT was my fav because it looked like a babe and could fit on the whole screen. At 31 weeks, although fun to see, it was more "over here is a foot, and way down here is the head, over here is the bum...." Hard to take it all in!

I only had one! In my province we only have the anatomy scan unless people aren't sure of their dates or if there is a worry!

I am 21 weeks, and I have only had one, which is probably the only one we will have!

None of my ultrasounds were "necessary." They did the first one at 8 weeks to see the baby and hear the heartbeat. At 18 weeks, we paid for a gender scan. Then we had 2 more, one was for "fun" and one was towards the end what I wasn't measuring right.

I had them at almost every visit, my OB had the machine in the office. The most hilarious one was the one at the hospital on my due date, because my child looked like Bart Simpson.

We had a viability scan at 7 weeks and then at 38 (or maybe 37) weeks, we had a scan to see how big the baby was.
ETA: And also the normals ones at 12 weeks and 20 weeks
pomegranate / 3398 posts
We had one at 5 weeks because of spotting, another at 12 weeks, then at 19 weeks and then starting at 32 weeks we had them weekly.

We had one elective u/s but we had quite a few u/s because of bleeding in the 1st trimester, NT scan, CVS test, then periodic u/s to check fetal growth.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
We've had 6/7 (can't remember) so far at 21 weeks. I think there will only be one more towards the end?
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
We got a bonus one in the 1st trimester because the OB couldn't locate the heart beat via the doppler. I was about 10-12 weeks along.

@delight: I thought it would be nice if there was a scan around 30 weeks since there's such a gap between the anatomy scan and birth and it would be fun to see the baby every 10 weeks or so, but your comment about your last scan is making me feel better about the wait. Our pictures from the NT scan are definitely nicer than the ones from the anatomy scan.
nectarine / 2217 posts
i wasn't trying to limit, but this time around (LO#2) we just had the 20 week one.
for LO#1 we had the standard 13 week and 20 week ultrasounds
pomegranate / 3113 posts
DH is a bit wary of ultrasounds so we had the NT scan and will get the anatomy scan, but don't plan on any others unless they're deemed medically necessary.
coconut / 8861 posts
I got two extra ones. At 13 weeks, LO wouldn't position himself correctly, so I had to go in for another one. At 34+ weeks, I asked if LO was head down, so my OB did a quick ultrasound to check.
pear / 1812 posts
We did but not through our OB. We have had 3 scans from the OB and have 1 more in a few weeks. We opted to do the 3D scans and it took us 3 tried for the baby to cooperate to get a good shot of the "goods" to find out the gender and we just had our real 3D scan (where she actually looks like a cute baby rather than an alien) last week. I can't imagine going so long between scans. I am so happy we chose to do the elective scans! I would have been going crazy at this point!
clementine / 916 posts
We got quite a few.. 7, 9, 12, 16, 20, 29, 31, 36. 3 scans were elective. We had 3 done in the beginning bc we were in Japan and over there they do an US at every visit.
papaya / 10570 posts
I've had 6 so far!!
We paid for a private one at 7 weeks because of our previous early m/c, then we had the regular 12 and 20 week scans. They had to repeat the 20 week scan at 23 weeks because they couldn't get all the measurements. We have since had two growth scans (because of GD). We stopped buying the pictures (£10 each from our hospital!) after the third one!!
