I did because my doctor said I should and also because it protects the baby for the first 6 months of life if you get the shot while you are pregnant.

curious what others did. I don't know if I should get one, but I'm thinking I'll wait now until after L&D. I seem to always get sick the years I don't get a flu shot.

My husband and I just got ours. I got the preservative free shot and I felt comfortable with that. I had a few reservations mainly because I'd never gotten one before, so I didn't know if I'd react, but I read a little bit about it, and my doctor was fairly adamant that we should get it, so we did.

i never get them when i'm not pregnant and i'm not going to get one now.

Yes, but I got it when I was 12 weeks I think? I was going to be pregnant during all of flu season. I also got the preservative free one.

The shot they give pregnant women is different from the one they give to the general public. Since i took public transit daily, i felt it was important to protect myself during the winter. I think i got my shots at 18 weeks. The risks to your baby should you get the flu are quite high.

Yes. I have never gotten a flu shot before and the doctor told me to get one. I also felt some pressure from MIL and DH but to their defense the previous year I had gotten the flu and was in the hospital 4 times in 2 weeks and had a 105 degree fever for most of it.
Anyways be sure to ask for the one "without mercury". The doc and pharmacy ended up making this a really big deal because they gave me the one WITH mercury. That poor walgreens pharmacist. I cussed her out - was crying hysterically - sure that I have given my darling fetus aspergers or something. UGH
Needless to say Im getting it again this year to keep DD from getting sick since I'm a SAHM and I don't want to give anything to her

Yes, I just got mine yesterday! They gave me the preservative free one. LO got her flu shot yesterday too!

Yup. Doctor strongly recommended. I usually get one anyway, so it was nice to know it was safe. I got it during my checkup, in my obgyn's office, so I trust what they gave me!

I was a bad pregger and did not. Pregnant Sept - June.

I never do and didn't when I was pregnant. I ended up fine and never got the flu.

Hubs and I got our on Monday at my most recent appointment. Since we both work with the public, I don't want to risk getting sick. This is Hubs' first one. He doesn't get sick often, but when he does it hits him hard so we'd like to avoid that. I like that by me getting the shot, baby will have the antibodies too.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow (also about 34 wks) and was going to ask her thoughts on it. I've always heard they recommend it. But, I'm also coming down with a cold now...so not sure if that may change her answer.

Yes I definitely did! A little poke for me to possibly prevent a really bad illness in my little dude - absolutely!

I've never had a flu shot, so I didn't think it was a good idea to get my first while pregnant. Plus I have never had the flu and rarely ever get sick.

I was told it's the same shot--not a different one for preg. women. I don't know if I'll get it yet or not. I get it every year because I visit family who have low immune systems and want to keep myself healthy. However, my work offered them *this week*, and I'm only 5 weeks.
I called my Dr's office and was put on hold a few times while the nurse asked various people, then finally came back on the phone and said something like, "well, you're just 5 weeks...but the benefits outweigh the risks... so yes, it's safe." She did not seem confident at all. I decided to wait on it a bit. If I decide to do it it will be closer to Thanksgiving or so... not so soon. We'll see.

Aren't you due soon anyway?
No. I didn't take it, I just took vit d instead

I voted yes, cause I am getting mine tomorrow. My doctor told me that I needed one. DH travels for work, so lots of airplanes and germs. I don't want to take the chance. I always get one, and never had a reaction to it.

I did at my 28 week appointment. But the I always get them since I have no idea what germs DH brings home from the hospital.

I always get one (I work in a hospital AKA germ stew pot). I got it at 14 weeks pregnant.

yup, got the flu shot while pregnant 2 weeks ago, and got sick that very night.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
Yup. Got it at 28 weeks. Im allergic to the medicine they give you if you get the flu so it would be very dangerous for me to catch it. Also I'm due in Nov so it was important to me that my getting the shot will provide my LO with protection through the rest of the flu season. Hubs hasn't had his yet but I think my OB sufficiently guilted him on Monday so he'll be doing so soon : )

Yep. It was my first flu shot ever. My doc was adamant about it. She said she could share horror stories.

I get the flu shot every year, and got it a few weeks ago too. For me, the risks associated with the flu when you're pregnant far outweigh any negatives. http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20120926/half-pregnant-women-risk-flu

They didn't have the preg version when I asked, so I got one before I was discharged from L&D. I'm not sure if they were supposed to give them out to patients yet, but they didn't want to make me come back with a newborn.

Absolutely, the risk of getting the flu and hurting the baby was just too high! I just got it again this year, the last thing we need in our house is the flu. I always ask for the preservative free vaccine. I always feel a little tired and achy the day I get it, but after a night of sleep there aren't any ill effects.

I got it around this time last year (due late Nov). Work paid for it and I usually get one anyway. It took longer while the nurse made sure she gave me the "right" one--my understanding that it was the live virus, and the other one isn't or vice versa.
Anyway, since LO was coming around the holidays and would have an undeveloped immune system, we wanted my shot to help protect her. We also made our family who was coming to visit at christmas get flu shots and no one got sick!

The last time I got one was in college. I used to get sick all the time and I just can't afford that right now with having to take care of two kids. I didn't get them when I was pregnant both times either. I just stayed away from all the coughy/sick ppl. I would not breathe and walk really fast away from them. Silly but I didn't get sick with my first pregnancy and only got sick once (cold) with my second. And I was pregnant during flu season both times. I guess I was lucky.

Yes, I got the preservative free one when the swine flu was at its peak. I never get flu shots typically but I wanted to be extra careful obviously since I was pregs. I didn't experience any side effects!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Yep got it at like 8 w pregnant. My doctor recommended and I generally always follow her instructions. Also my husband works in a hospital and I couldn't chance getting sick. I think I felt grubby for an evening but that was it.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
Yes, in my second trimester, because the year before I had gotten a cold that turned into a viral lung infection. Not fun. It lasted 3 months.
nectarine / 2797 posts
I get one every year, and I didn't stop when I was preggo last year. I did ask for the preservative free one, which was a little awkward since I get mine at work and was only like 8 weeks, and didn't want any of my coworkers to overhear and ask why I wanted a different shot.
grapefruit / 4120 posts
I heard the same as @highwire! So yes. With my first I didn't do it but this time I did.
