No - I had not realized you needed it both pregnancies. I got it with my first and then actually wound up with whooping cough this pregnancy so I definitely recommend following the guidelines!

Yes the reason is because your body creates antibodies once you get the vaccine, and those are passed to the baby.

No, my doctor said it was mixed with the Tetanus vaccine, so I assumed it meant I only needed it every 10 years

Yes, its a fairly new recommendation to get it in every pregnancy. It is due to the increasing amounts of whooping cough diagnosis in small children in recent years. We have a 7 month old in my community currently who has whooping cough.

My doctor told me that if you arent pregnant it is good for 10 years but if you are pregnant you need it every pregnancy in order to protect the baby.

They never had me get it the first time (weirdly). Baby didn't make it so it so maybe they would have if I'd carried farther? But LO only stayed in two days longer and they had me get it well before so...? Same medical practice.

I didn't realize that I needed it for my second (they were only 12 months apart), but I got it in the hospital once she was born. I will get it again with this one.

It wasn't offered during pregnancy during my first but I just got it last week for this one.

CDC guidelines changed to this recommendation in 2013, so I've only had it during my most recent pregnancy.

I had it while I was still in the hospital after I gave birth. I haven't brought it up this time, but if they recommend it I would just do the same thing again.

I didn't get it, but I asked and my doctor said that Health Canada, the equivalent of the CDC, didn't recommend it. I don't think they advised against it, but maybe they hadn't proved yet that there was a benefit? I can't remember. I'd only had my booster a couple of years before, so maybe that was a factor.

Like TLCBaby, I got it in the hospital after I had H. I probably won't bring it up beforehand, but they will give it to me in the hospital.

No- this last pregnancy they didn't mention it and I forgot.

@avivoca: they recommend it in the third trimester so you can give passive immunity to the baby. This doesn't happen if you wait until after birth.

@avivoca: I just really didn't want to get any while I was pregnant...this was a good compromise.

@tlcbaby: I think I asked them about it and they were like, "you can wait until after you give birth." Okay by me.
