Did you or will you give up diet soda while pregnant?
Eta: if no, why not? If so, was it because of the caffeine, aspertame, both, or some other reason?

Nope. But I dont drink diet, I drink regular. Although, I have quit since.

I ended up giving it up because it became an aversion of mine. With my second pregnancy, I couldn't even hear a can being opened!

I don't drink soda at all, so not sure how to answer your question.
I switched to decaf coffee a majority of the time. I had wine more often than caffeinated coffee during my pregnancy!
I don't use artificial sweeteners for the most part.

I gave up all soda while pregnant -and have kept up with it since!

I stopped drinking it several years ago, due to the aspartame. Not because I was pregnant, just because it's bad for you, in general. I curbed my need for excessive soda, and now just drink a regular one every now and then.

Not totally, but I tried to only have one when I really, really craved it.
pomegranate / 3716 posts
I voted no, but I only have it 2 - 3x a month max, so I.don't think it's a big deal to me...
nectarine / 2132 posts
Yes for the most part. When DH opens a diet soda, or orders one when we are out, I will have a few sips. I never drink more than that though, and it's mostly because of the caffeine but I know I should be more worried about aspartame as well.

I voted yes because ultimately I gave up diet soda and switched to regular. It was because of the aspartame. Next pregnancy id like to give up soda altogether though. Caffeine was Not an issue as it was easy to drink caffeine free coke or sprite and ginger ale

I switched to regular soda when I became pregnant to avoid the artificial sweeteners.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Yup. Switched to regular whenever I drank pop, which wasn't too often. I wanted to avoid the aspartame.
nectarine / 2134 posts
I didn't "give it up" but I only drink part of one maybe once a week or less.
clementine / 812 posts
I gave it up because of the artificial sweeteners and caffeine. I also don't drink regular because I think high fructose corn syrup is the devil
To treat myself I buy "fancy" pop once in a while that is made with real sugar and no caffeine.

Nope! I cut back but my doctor said not to worry about it. She drank them while pregnant herself.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I don't like most artificial sweeteners anyway but was extra careful to avoid them while pregnant. I had caffeine most days from the second trimester on, just made sure to stay well below the limits. I would occasionally have a regular cokeif I really needed a puck me up.
And I drank quite abut of regular ginger alle in the first trimester!

Yes, not that I was a big diet drinker to begin with, but even the occasional diet soda was a huge aversion to me, the fake sugar taste was too strong to me. I'm not even a fan of high fructose corn syrup, I prefer the cane sugar sodas. Plus the aspertame wasn't something I wanted to expose the baby to, let alone myself. The caffeine was a non-issue, I still had caffeine through both pregnancies.

I drink soda like maybe once a month, so I stuck to diet, since I like it better than regular.

I didn't vote, but I did cut out soda, just for the caffeine and sugar reasons, but I have had sprite or two
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
For the most part, I did, but wouldnt turn down a diet coke if I wanted one. I actually hate coke and prefer diet. I switched to sparkling water as much as possible. I just hate the taste of full sugar sodas even though I know diet sodas not a great option.
I drank a ton of ginger ale in the beginning
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
I have up most sodas unless a really special occasion. I do still drink sugar and caffeine but through sweet tea (and usually I make that at home decaf with less sugar).

I don't drink soda regularly, maybe 2x a week, but made the decision to not have any diet soda at all whole pregnant because of the sweeteners.
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
I don't usually drink soda but crave it like crazy when pregnant . I probably have one or two sodas a week. Last pregnancy it was sprite but this pregnancy it's coke or root beer...trying to stick with caffeine free root beer

I don't eat/drink any artificial sweeteners, pregnant or not. I treat myself to a real cane sugar soda every once in a while.

I had a diet side like 3 times. I was really craving it. I never drink soda regularly.
nectarine / 2358 posts
I don't drink it because of the sweeteners and also because of the caffeine. I've been known to have a Fanta every now and then when I really crave a soda. Or Onli.

Yes, my dr said to avoid artificial sweeteners. I rarely drink any soda though so it wasn't a big deal, not having Splenda in my (occasional) coffee was a bigger change!
papaya / 10570 posts
I switched to diet caffeine free coke but I never worried about the sweetener situation.

I drink it occasionally and it never occurred to me to not drink it while pregnant. A lot of the things on the internet to avoid seem silly...soft serve? I refuse to give something to my 3 year old and then not eat it myself since I am pregnant. I generally eat a well balanced diet, but didn't give up anything aside from alcohol while pregnant.

Never liked diet. Drink maybe one regular a week. I am not much of a caffeine consumer so I don't worry about the little bits I have here and there. The artificial sweeteners though - no bueno.

Not too far along, but I haven't had soda yet. I'd rather get my caffeine through my one cup of coffee! I also drink the regular sodas whenever I do have one.
persimmon / 1304 posts
I did...but generally for two reasons. One was because pre-preg, I usually only drank it when having a few drinks, mixed with rum. And secondly because any bubbly drinks upset my stomach while I was pregnant.

No but I only drink one occasionally anyways. I definitely don't give up coffee!
