I didn't but my friend had one after 34 weeks!

I did at 15 and 30 weeks- they were awesome! The 15 weeks was mainly to find out gender, and 30 weeks got the most accurate picture of him. We chose his name off of that one. Probably one of the best moments of my pregnancy.
I also had one around 36 weeks at my doctor's office to check baby size and position, the quality of their machine was nothing like the elective ones we paid for.

With my first DD I had it done around 24 weeks (to confirm gender because the tech at my 20 week scan wouldn't give us a straight answer). I also went back at 28 and 32 weeks only because they were an expanding business and offered them for free to me, so I said sure!

@autumnlove: did she get good shots?? I'm participating in a study through the hospital that's offering me a free 3d/4d at 34 weeks (I think) and I was worried we wouldn't get to really see much because most places recommend before 32 weeks. But, I also don't want to pay for one when that one is free!
Downside is that DH doesn't want to go to the (free) 3d/4d, or any other one. He wants her to be a surprise and "see her when he sees her."

@sorrycharlie: She was pretty happy! There was a really clear image of her son sucking his thumb and another with his fist balled up under his chin like The Thinker!

my insurance covered it as having a normal sono. i had my first one at 18 weeks, another at 30, and i think i get one more to measure before baby is born.

We got one during our 20 week ultrasound but he didn't cooperate too much. She couldn't get the soft tissue to show up too well as she said he was too close to the wall. Plus, he kept his hand in front of his face so we couldn't see much. She turned to us and said "this is why you don't pay for it". I just thought that was funny.

My anatomy scan was actually 4D so we didn't have to pay any extra for the pictures! It was awesome, they just do it without asking!

Yes, we got one done during our anatomy scan and it was free. Normally I'd have to pay for it but the tech said that the baby was in perfect position for a 3D and she couldn't resist. haha. So she gave us a few 3d pics for us to take home. It was fun seeing the baby in 3d! Kinda creepy but fun! haha

We had a 3d/4d ultrasound at 27 weeks. It was incredible! We did pay for it and it was worth every penny

We had one at 30w due to some complications so we didn't pay for it. It was really awesome though and DS looks just like his 3d pics!

I just had my 3D done (had a 3D glimpse at 16 weeks) this past weekend (@ 30 weeks), and it was awesome. We could see her features really well, and there are even a couple of shots where her eyes were opened. Ah-may-zing! Although some shots are a little freaky looking, she really looked beautiful and peaceful in most of them. I can't believe she's my butterbean!.

We just scheduled ours for next Friday (July 13). I will be 27 weeks then. We are really looking forward to it. We are also planning on scheduling another one at 32 weeks.

i bought a groupon for a 3d/4d ultrasound, couldn't resist! now my parents can come up and participate instead of having to crowd around in a doctor's office.

i got one around 30 weeks? with charlie and i have no regrets. my mom and aunt were visiting that week, and they had never seen an ultrasound in their lives. plus my mom wasn't really able to be a part of my pregnancy (her first grandchild) since she lived in LA and I'm in New York. I know obs are against it and Mrs. Tricycle had a great post about it today, but I guess I was used to getting so many ultrasounds having had 2 miscarriages, gone through clomid, etc. that I wasn't nervous about it.
Because of my experience several friends had 3d ultrasound, but their experience wasn't as great as mine because the baby didn't cooperate. With mine I saw Charlie yawn, blink, smile.... it was so awesome, and my mom and aunt's reaction was priceless!

@megjay18: get out! so jealous! I wish I had a groupon for one, that would be AMAZING!
I so want one, but just don't want to spend the money when we'll have one at 34 weeks. I'm bummed DH doesn't want anything to do with it, though oh well..maybe I'll bring my mom!

@MrsSPB: We have ours scheduled for the 13th too! Hopefully we'll both get some adorable pictures

We had one, but didn't pay out of pocket for it. We had monthly growth scans from 20w on, and at one point the tech surprised us with some 3D pics. They were amazing!

We did not have one because we did not want to pay out of pocket for it.

I didn't have one. I find the 3d images extremely creepy (to the point where I avoid looking at others people's at all costs).

I am going Monday next week for mine (will be 27w2d) and am SO excited even more after reading this

We had one done electively @ 32 weeks. The tech suggested that next time we do it around 28 weeks for the best pictures, because @ 32 weeks although we got some great pics, DD was pretty cramped up & covering her face a lot

We're 15 weeks and it will be another 6 weeks before our anatomy scan. I want to spend the $45 to get it done, but Hubs says he wants to just wait. I am so tempted to go without him, but I'd never do that to him.

Just had ours today! We spent $165 for a dvd of the entire session (video), cd of the 40 images, and a 45 minute session. I enjoyed it and will probably do it with future LOs too, but at the same time; didn't get as clear a view as we had hoped for!
The fact that I have an anterior placenta, LO was (and has been) lying really low made it hard for us to see him, but it was still cool nonetheless to see our chubby bunny and see his eyes, nose, lips, hands, etc. so clearly
And def got the confirm that it's a boy

@mrsjyw: Aw fun! We opted out of doing this, but glad you had such a good experience, even if he was hiding a little.
pomegranate / 3706 posts
I didn't. I had to have extra ultrasounds at the beginning anyway due to placenta previa worries, and then extra ones due to low fluid worries at the end, so I didn't want to have any more that weren't necessary.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
Yes, we had one around 28 weeks. Tech said to avoid any caffeine to make sure the amniotic fluid was nice and clear.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I totally forgot about this thread! Haha! We had ours last Thursday at 36+2. It was through a study, so it was free.
I had an anterior placenta so I was worried it would impede the US, but at my last growth scan I got a face shot so I was hopeful! Turns out my placenta has shifted toward my left, I guess.
Anyway - I'll upload some of the pictures! We got a DVD and I am just in love. I can't screen shot on my Mac, which sucks, but I took some photos of the screen (her printed photos are tiny).
She sucked on her thumb and fingers for most of the ultrasound (2nd photo), and kept sticking out her tongue and swallowing. They asked what I had eaten that day, because apparently it was something she liked! (Smores granola bar!)
