Just curious if anyone actually lost their mucus plug or had a bloody show before they went into labor. It seems like it's pretty rare so I was wondering if that's an actual indication of labor, and, if you don't mind sharing, just curious what it actually looked like.

Wow. If you really wanna know what the mucus plug looks like I can send you a picture. HAHA. I made my DH take a picture of it because it looked SO AMAZING! It was long.. about 4 inches, and the prettiest color. It didn't just look like mucus, it looked stringy on the inside and was a faint pinkish color.

@chopsuey119: LOL - that's too funny that you took a picture of it. I guess I was wondering what it looked like because I've heard it can be a range of colors and consistancies... so I'm not sure what to expect, if anything.

i lost my mucus plug, but it was about 1 week before i went into labor.

I think @chopsuey119: described it well! My husband googled it and accidentally clicked on images, he wanted to puke. I didn't go into labor for weeks after I lost mine.

@BabyBoecksMom: I had googled it because I was curious too. But none of the images I found were of the plug. I think a lot of women confuse regular mucus for the plug.
most of the time you lose it when you're peeing, but I was lucky! I lost it right as I was coming out of the shower. -
I don't know if I ever lost my or not. I never saw it
And I never had a bloody show either.

I lost mine 2 days before I went into labor. I went to the bathroom and there it was. A pinkish/salmon colored long string. LOL There was no doubt in my mind that it was my mucus plug, even without ever seeing pictures. I threw mine away though. No pics. lol

I lost mine on the Friday before my water broke.

Is there a difference between a mucus plug and a bloody show? I've read they're the same and I've read they're different. So confusing!

Nope, I didn't either. I always, always checked toward the end but nothing ever gave me a sign that I was nearing labor. Until all of a sudden I was in labor. The contractions were the only things that were textbook.

I'm not that far along, and totally had to to google it just to see. Hopefully I miss mine, otherwise I might just be sick when I see it! (I swear my stomach was ironclad before getting pregnant!)

I lost mine 2 days before I started having contractions. It looked like a giant, beige-y snot.

I never saw one speck of colored discharge at all since the day I conceived, and the morning I went into labor I kept going to pee to see if I was losing my mucus plug (because I wasn't sure it was really labor) and when I wiped, I saw a tiny tiny tiny tiny chunk of blood. Not a drop, not a smear, but a chunk. I was so happy to see that tiny little chunk! I was like, this has GOT to be it! (I had been having Braxton Hicks for weeks!)

Yup. Kind of like snot but bloody (sorry for the visual). Saw it around 10 pm, woke up with contractions at 5 am, baby born naturally at 7 pm

I lost my mucus plug while in labor after wiping while going to the bathroom. But my water never broke. It wasn't bloody, but certainly not what I expected-- gelatinous.

thanks for the descriptions! I hadn't googled anything about it, but it's good to hear what other people have experienced. I'm at 39 weeks & haven't seen anything yet, but my mom said she never saw one with either me or my brother & the ladies that I work with & have talked to about it never saw theirs, either.

@BabyBoecksMom: yes, I lost it!! I thought it sounded so strange until I saw it & knew that was EXACTLY what it was lol!! Mine was probably only 2 inches but bloody & super stringy & like thick cord of discharge (sorry sorry--tmi!) I didn't have LO until like 5 days later though! I was discouraged.
