We didn't have any second choice names for either LO, we did have a name picked out for a boy though! We were pretty dead set on the names we chose and didn't really put more thought into after that.

Yes! Charlotte was the runner up for LO1 and Nicholas was the runner up for LO2. My mom was relieved we didn't choose either name.

No and we didn't have a girl name picked either! We waited until we met him to see if the name fit, but I have no idea what I would have done if I had thought it wasn't the right name. We had zero other ideas!

Nope. If he didn't look like L, well, then we joked about naming him "nameless".
honeydew / 7230 posts
We decided pretty early what they'd be named and stuck with it. But our second place names were Sam and Lila (which is what we named their bitty twin dolls!).

Our back up name was Jaimee but I wasn't sold on it. We didn't have any boys names at all!

DS1 would have been Eleanor (Ella) if he was a girl and DS2 would have been Maeve. We definitely didn't have any boy back up names for DS1 as his name is a family name. DS2's middle name was probably his back up name. I'm still really sad that I won't be able to use the name Maeve as we are done after 2.

We had two: Corinne and Eliza. But we found out on a Friday that we were having a girl and by the following Monday we were dead set on a first name.

We were team green and had 2 names for a boy and 3 for a girl in contention. Oliver was the boy name we didn't use.

@wrkbrk: Have you been talking to DH????? He is begging for a dog but I'm not there.

@twodoghouse: Sam & Lila are two of my favorite girls names! They are used by my cousin though. Good back up plan for dolls though! ha.

We were team green so had two boy names going in, but didn't love either of them, but only one girl name, which we loved. But we still wanted to meet her before finalizing the name and waited an hour or so before texting it to family (first text was "it's a girl! Name coming soon").

We ended up using our backup name when we got pregnant with DD2! it took as awhile to "finalize" between Everly & Meredith. We were very torn, which is strange because they are so different, she's an Everly not a Meredith so we got it right

We were TG both times. The runners up were:
DD1 - Clara Christine, Samuel Charles
DD2 - Gemma Felicity, Benedict George

No, with DS I loved the name too much for backups and now with DD we could barely come up with one name.
pineapple / 12566 posts
For DS we didn't have any serious backups. For DD, we had several, we didn't pick a name until the day after she was born.

kind of - we had an option but we never felt like they fit! our other brainstorm for Olivia was...actually, I can't even remember anymore. Charlotte might have been a Chloe.

Yes! If she didn't look like a Jana, it would have either been Jocelyn or Julia!
papaya / 10343 posts
Yep, she was almost Penelope (Penny). She does not look like a Penelope to me now
pomegranate / 3393 posts
No, we had enough trouble coming up with one name, which we did after he was born and we found out he was a boy!
pomelo / 5084 posts
@MUI831: Haha! We always joke that that's how we will use our names - that said, we already have four dogs so we will have to wait several years before adding.

We were TG for #1, and Evan was the only boy name we had (but we had 3 different middle names). We had 3 girl names.
No backup for this one, at least for her first name. It's non-negotiable for D. Her middle name isn't set yet, though, and if I can't settle on one before she's here I'll be going in with several, lol.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Not really, we always know which one it would be. We do have another girl's name but always thought it'd be for the next girl.

Just for LO2. Still not sure we picked the right names for him lol.

We had it narrowed down to four names before I went into labour. Then by the time DS was born we had it down to three. His first two days he was "little buddy" until we decided on a name just before checking out. We then conpleted his paperwork (I think here you gave 30 days to do everything, but it is easier if you start the process at the hospital). We wanted to try them all out and see what seemed right for him.

We had a few for both kiddos.
My daughters runner ups were seraphina, Clara, and Emma
My sons runner ups were Sebastian, Julian, and Nathaniel

For DD, no. For DS, yes. I actually liked the backup a little better but DH was never sold on it. Apparently after delivery when we were finalizing the name DH was trying to tell me he was going for the backup name and I cut him off and said the first choice name. Oops. Not sure why he told me that 4 months later.

For DD1, Lark was the runner up. For DD2, we were pretty set on the first unless she came out looking totally different. We decided her middle name after she was born by writing them down on the whiteboard at the hospital. We could have gone either way really!

#1 would have been Colin or Calvin or Connor
#2 would have been Elliott or Ethan
persimmon / 1114 posts
Nope. DS's name was a family name we had decided on before we even got pregnant. We had not decided yet on a girl's name.
I am only 15w pregnant right now with the next one but it is hard bc we don't really have any front runners for a boy or a girl! At least we still have a while to narrow things down.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Tyler was almost Owen.
Ryan was almost Dylan.
Their names seem to fit so well now though!

For a long time LO was going to be Levi, and at 7 months we veto'd it and then it was between Ethan and Kipton.
My mom was in the room right after delivery and started calling him "Kippy" so that ended that name! Ethan it is.
