Did you tour local hospitals or did you know which hospital you wanted to go to?

I didn't have a choice, I had to go to the hospital that was in my canton (county equivalent). My doctor didn't have priveledges there, but no matter, the midwives were excellent.

When I was pregnant with N, I was torn between two hospitals that my doctor had privileges at. I toured one and delivered at the other lol. What sold me on the hospital I delivered at was my doctor. He told me that I would likely be more comfortable there. I loved everyone who cared for us.
When I was pregnant with E, I only toured one hospital. It was closer to where I worked and lived. I was mostly happy with everything there. If we still live here when we have another I will likely deliver there again.

I chose my hospital years ago and then picked my insurance around it. I still took a tour. Only two hospitals deliver here, and the insurance plans go with them.

I didn't have a choice. My insurance only delivers at one hospital, so I was limited to choosing an OB who delivers there.

We toured the hospital in te third trimester.

I didn't have a choice. We were at an overseas military base at the time, so I was at the base hospital. They ended up transferring me to a British hospital off-base and didn't give me a choice then either. It was fine though. It ended up a good thing. I got to tour the base hospital in the 3rd trimester, I didn't get to tour the NHS one.

The one nearest to our house (15 mins) happens to be the newest hospital in the city, and it also has a great reputation as a birthing centre - think lots of private rooms, jacuzzi baths for labouring, access to birthing balls, reclining sleep chairs for the fathers, low incidence of C-sections, etc. There isn't a NICU, however there is at the hospital 10 mins away from there.

I didn't do any further research or tours, but based it on closeness, great reputation, and where my doc has hospital privileges.
