Because of exhaustion and/or ms?

Yes, I had optical migraines and an aura would take over more than half my vision before the pain would start. It wasn't safe for me to drive.

No, I knew I needed it for maternity leave. But, I also did not have really bad nausea that I needed medication for.
pear / 1770 posts
Nope. I've only taken two days my whole pregnancy because I'm hoarding it all for my leave. There have definitely been some rough days in the office.
pomelo / 5660 posts
I only get paid when i work, so no. I just worked through the naseau and exhaustion.

Yes my first tri coincided with my birthday and I always take the day off on my birthday. I took an impromptu half day at 11 weeks after doing a Habitat for Humanity. I went home and went to sleep. I didn't take other PTO related to pregnancy symptons just doctor appointments.

No. I figured I had to get up and take DD to my in laws anyways so of I'm up I'll just go to work and save my leave. I have a desk job though.

No, because I was lucky and didn't need to! But with my first job I could have taken regular sick leave, which was separate from PTO/vacation.

No. But I never had ms. It probably would be different if I did. I only took days off for certain doctors appointments.

At most I took 1 day, I think. I did telework a few more days when the dizziness was bad (didn't feel safe to drive) or would delay going in until traffic had died down a little when feeling nauseous (the stop and go was terrible when nauseous). If I didn't have the telework or flex option, I probably would have taken more time.

Nope. I had to save all my days for LOs many sicknesses. I was on 3 anti nausea medications that cause drowsiness and dizziness, so I definitely had some days where I just sat at my desk miserably and didn't get much done, but I was there.

Nope. The only time I took off the entire pregnancy was for doctors appointments and to catch a flight for my out of town baby shower.

I took the whole day off any time I had a doctor appointment. I was a teacher with a long commute so it just made sense to rest for the remainder of the day.

I took a few sick days here and there or flexed it off my schedule. Mostly i just sat at my desk, unproductively, thinking about how shitty I felt (super helpful, right?)
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
No.. I was saving it all for maternity leave since I don't get paid for it!
eggplant / 11824 posts
Nope – well, I took half a day when I went to the hospital for MS. I didn’t want to use days that early in part to bank my time and in part because I didn’t want to set that impression with my team (note, my manager at the time was not supportive of pregnant women and working mothers so that drove part of my reluctance to use PTO early).
I mostly just closed the door to my office and barfed all day. Fun times.
pear / 1955 posts
Yeah, morning sickness kicked my ass - there were some days where I was basically just propped up at my computer at work, getting absolutely no work done.
pomelo / 5220 posts
No, I hid in my office and suffered.. it was terrible. But I don't regret not using the days cause I wanted to hoard them for LO.
coconut / 8472 posts
No, because I figured I was just going to have to deal since you can't use sick time for 3 months. I nap a lot on the weekends though, even without meaning to, if I'm on the couch I'll fall asleep.
kiwi / 603 posts
Nope. Just powered through it. It goes fast and next thing you know you're in the third tri! The only PTO I took this pregnancy so far was for vacation/holidays which I had to use before year end anyways.

I had fairly bad ms (took zofran for vomiting), and took only one or two days of sick leave. But my company closed for two weeks during Christmas and New Years, which was the height of my ms, so that helped a lot. And I rearranged my schedule so I got off early.
I basically vomited 3-5 times per day for 20 weeks, and 1-2 times per day for five more weeks. There was no hiding my pregnancy from my boss. She was also pregnant but had very little ms (no vomiting and only nausea if she didn't eat breakfast).

With my first, yes, about a week until I could get the nausea under control with Zofran. It was terrible! With my second I didn't use a sick day the entire pregnancy. Pure luck that I didn't get sick since I work with kids.

Once I had to leave work, so I took a half day, but I knew I would need all of my PTO for appointments later, so I pushed through as well as I could.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
No, but I did take naps on the floor of my office....
I had a pretty flexible schedule so I could come in late occasionally.
I did have to take some days off in the early second trimester due to migraines.
