Mine didn't. I guess it's not a Thai thing. Which is good, as there are many other Thai things that I don't get

My parents didn't ask about divorce (my in-laws are still married) but they asked a lot about their dynamic. My parents do EVERYTHING together and find it odd that my in-laws do NOTHING together.

My parents had major concerns when they found out that DH's parents were divorced. It caused them to ask a number of different questions about DH's family, which to my parents, his family was not a favorable choice. After getting to know him though they realized that he was not a stereotypical product of that type of lifestyle and my father actually took him under his wing. DH and my parents are probably closer than he is to his own at this point.

My parents asked about dynamic as well. Wanted to know that DH came from a loving family. Which he does!

His never asked but I think it's because he told his parents mine were still together way before I ever met them. I feel lucky that we both have parents that are still together after 38 and 45 years.

No but that's probably b/c DH's parents were never married, but mine did divorce when I was a teen.

I think it's a pretty valid question though and not just a korean thing (atleast it shouldn't be)...

In a marriage series that DH and I went through it was talked about that coming from a divorced family can significantly raise your risk of divorce.... Has to do with learned behaviors in how to deal with trials and conflict.

My in-laws didn't, but both set of parents are divorced. Husband and I grew up with the same family dynamic: raised by single mothers, both our dads stopped being involved when we were around 4/5 but came back into our lives as young adults.

Before we got engaged, my mother-in-law asked me if I felt I needed to be married first to have a child, because she desperately wanted a grandchild!

i know my parents never did and i don't recall his parents ever asking. his parents may have asked what my parents did, assuming they were married. i'm sure my husband let them know before they met me though. who knows.

btw, 42 years???? that's so awesome, congrats to your parents. i guess my parents are kinda close but doesn't seem that long. 37 years.
