MIL got my LO an Alvin and the Chipmunks DVD and a big plastic monster truck that yells "Rev it up!" and other loud nonsense whenever you touch it. Why does she hate me so much?

Not really annoying but MIL got DS a tool bench with toy tools. It says ages 3+ and has a ton of small parts. So I guess it will be sitting in the box for two years...

My husbands step-mom likes to shop major discount stores and our tastes really clash anyway, she bought a plastic "leather" credit card holder for my son, a really bright colored roll up velcro stuffed snail for our 2 year old, and I didn't see the rest of the gifts. I wish she wouldn't waste her $$ on these!

Nothing really bad. Just some stuff that was really large so people obviously didn't consider the fact that we had to fly home. We had to borrow an extra suitcase from my parents and still leave some stuff behind.

LO primarily got noisy, flashy toys. i actually wouldn't mind them if we didn't get so many of the same, but different looking, thing. I just don't find there is much he can do with them besides push a button and it makes noise and lights flash. They were great for our car ride home from OOT, but now that we are home I decided he can only have 1, maybe 2, in his play area at a time and i will rotate them. I like him to have a variety of toys that he can do different things with.
on second thought, he also got a lot of books and clothes which are always welcome. So half his gifts were the annoying toys, the other half was good stuff. Just means I get to shop for him for toys I prefer he play with more regularly - which I don't mind because i like picking out things and shopping for him.

@HLK208: My MIL got my daughter a huge stuffed dog. It's taller than I am (5'5"). She's 3 months old. I just don't get it. Our house is 1100 sq. ft. and we just don't have room for it. We had to strap it in a seat to get it home.

Whoa.... that was a pretty pink and purple unicorn! Maybe your MIL caught on to the My Little Pony thing. My oldest got a cool toy but it takes a LONG time to put it together and some parts comes off easily... Not the best toy to have when there's a 21-month-old as well who won't eat the little things but you just never know and they'll both destroy it... And I can just see my 4.5 y.o. cry his eyes out. Toys are so evil! LOL!

My son is 2 1/2 and plays with kids who are much older. My SIL bought him a transformer. Only it's the transformer for really young kids and doesn't really transform. He sat all day yesterday upset because he was convinced it had to do something else. I hate that a you made him that upset. And they didn't bother to even look at his wish list or ask us.

@evansjamie: uggh, that's what I'm saying! We're going to have three children - where is there room for a 6ft long unicorn?! I think she wanted DD to be "wowed" by it but she was just scared. I know that no one has to give a gift but I also think it would be really nice to be considerate, I would prefer no gift at all!

I told my ILs at Thankgiving that my parents were getting R the Zany Zoo(explained what it was). Even mentioned it again when I emailed her list to them. They gave her an activity cube. FIL asks she doesn't have one does she, I said yes she just got another brand for Christmas from my parents. They still took the thing out of the box and threw the box away. Now we have two and don't need two. Would have rather returned in and bought diapers!
