My parents did leave us alone at home starting when I was around 9 and I was left "in charge" of my sister who was around 7. They usually took my baby sister with them.

I spent entire days in the car! My dad would be working and just leave us in the car. We'd go on a road trip and if someone didn't want to do something they were left in the car.

Poor dh he woke up on the side of the road on a road trip and his parents were nowhere to be seen. and he was 4 or 5 and had to look after his two younger sisters. !!!!!!

Yes all the time. Both my parents were smokers and quick run to buy cigarettes meant I was left in the car. Windows were cracked and from the time I can actually remember being left in the car I was able to open the car door and leave if need be.

I honestly can't remember! Wow, my memory must be fading. I want to say that I have vague memories of my mom leaving me in the car to quickly run into a store or gas station, but I think I was grade school age. I really have no idea!

I don't remember how old I was, but I do remember waiting in the car while my mom ran into the grocery store. I remember her first leaving me home alone to go to the gym when I was around 10.

My little brother is 12 and my mom almost never leaves him home alone. He HATES being home alone. By the time I was 12, I was home alone every day after school until my mom got home around 7pm and if she had to work a night shift (4-12 ish), I would stay home alone. I didn't like it at first, but I got used to it.

A few times but just for a few minutes. My mom left me home alone a lot to take my sisters to school and grocery shop. She would turn on a movie and say she would be home by the time it was over.

All the time in store parking lots, we used to honk the horn when people walked by!

Not in the car, but at home, yes. My siblings and I were alone every morning because our parents had to leave for work. We were also latchkey kids. Obviously not ideal, but it was also a different time.

Yup, I remember one time being left in the car when I was 6 or 7 with my cousin who was under a year. She was in her carseat and I was teasing her by taking her bottle away from her...

Yup. And I lived somewhere very hot! The windows were open and I don't think I was a baby, though (not that I would remember).
