Nope, not at all! My dad even gave me the nickname, "his TV kid"!

Nope! I had a TV in my room at a young age. I chose to spend the majority of my time playing outside though.

Content was limited, but not hours. Homework had to be done, chores had to be done, and then it was pretty much fair game. I have three younger siblings, though, and lots of friends in my neighborhood, so I didn't watch a ton of TV even though I probably could have.

Not even a little. I watched anything and everything. But I also played A LOT of sports so sitting in front of a tv for hours wasnt really happening.

Not really...but they didn't really have to. I never sat still enough for tv and I was always more interested in toys and being outside.

No but they were strict about what we were allowed to watch, and we never had TVs in our rooms. The amount of time was just never limited & we watched TV from infancy. I did have a computer in my room but it was old school AOL & my mom put parental controls on it.

Yes. We had no TV in the house and we were allowed very little computer time up until high school.

We were allowed one show a day, had no game systems and in the summer they unplugged the tv so we wouldn't watch any. My parents were pretty strict...

Oooh yes! I don't think we even had a TV when I was a baby. I remember being allowed to watch one hour per day when I was school age. And that was usually just sesame street or whatever other children's programs were on PBS. By the time I was a teenager and my parents had three kids the rules were more lax and I did get away with watching more. Mostly MTV, back when they actually played music videos, ha!

Oh yeah and were never had any game systems. We did have an oooold Macintosh computer and I remember playing a few computer games once in a while.

I was allowed to watch one show a week. I always chose Rescue 911 bc it was an hour long

@mrsjyw: same! My mom always tells me not to worry about j because I watched Cinderella 2-3 times a DAY and I turned out okay. Wtffffff

@grizz: ok random story but I had mono my sophomore year and watched Rescue 911 and had a semi-conscious dream that I was one of the stories and never watched it again LOL

@grizz: Wow, Rescue 911; that just brought me back. The hot bath water episode is forever imprinted in my brain.
We weren't permitted much TV, and spent most of our time outdoors or in our rooms playing make believe. I have memories watching Sesame Street and Mister Rogers, but other than that, the TV wasn't really on.

No limits on anything. I remember watching HBO as young as 3! Yikes.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
No, but we only had 4 channels, so there wasn't much on that I enjoyed.

Yep. No daytime TV unless we were sick, an hour in the evenings after homework was done, and they monitored content pretty strictly - only ABC or SBS (pretty much the Australian equivalent of only letting your kids watch PBS).
Eventually they figured out that Saturday cartoons = sleep in for Mum and Dad and the rules got thrown out the window between 6am and 9am on weekends. My siblings were piiiissssed, because they only figured that one out with me, and I'm the youngest of four.
