We were admitted to the hospital around 9pm on a Friday night and I labored overnight. In the morning DH went to the cafeteria and got himself some french toast and bacon and ate it in front of me!
Then after the nurse checked me and said I was at a 10 and would be pushing soon, he said he was going to go get an iced tea refill before I started pushing. I gave him the look of death and he immediately said nevermind!
Did your SO do anything that pissed you off while you were in labor?

this didn't piss me off, but i love recapping this story: RIGHT after i pushed out DD and they put her in my arms, I looked over at him and his first words to me were, "I'M SO TIRED"... uhhhhhhh YOU'RE SO TIRED?!??!!?

Same with the eating! Although technically, it was post-delivery. I wasn't able to eat right away afterwards, and DH decided it would be a good idea to sit in front of me downing a cheeseburger and fries. The words I said to him cannot be repeated!
My good friend's husband was drafting his fantasy football team during her labor. THAT would have pissed me off even more!

@lawbee11: I would be mad about eating in front of me too. I told DH to go get some breakfast at one point. And he was really shy in telling me that he already did. He ate something really fast when he went to get coffee and talked to my parents. But didn't want to tell me since I couldn't eat. But I wasn't even hungry during labor, I was just tired from being up all night.

he left to go eat lunch with his dad (i was nowhere near ready to push.) i swear it felt like he was gone for 3 hours, which is the part that pisses me off, but he promises it was only an hour.
i told him an hour stuck with my mom and mil in the same room FEELS like an eternity, though! haha!

Mine was actually the opposite... for some reason he got the idea that we weren't allowed to bring any food into the room at all. The nurses told him he had to eat something and to go get a sandwich. So he disappeared... for 30 mins!!! He RAN to the cafeteria, WOLFED down a sandwich in 3 mins and RAN back. I was so mad that he had left my side for that long... I would rather have had him eat in the room!
He also WOULD NOT sit down during our first labor, which lasted 24 hours. When I could nap he napped too, but otherwise he was STANDING by my bedside. The nurses kept bringing him stools and chairs but he insisted on standing. His feet were killing him the next day. He's kind of an intense dude during big moments.
I prepped him to not speak unless spoken to, not touch unless I requested, etc. because I knew I'd be horrible in labor. I was right and he did GREAT.

@Smurfette: @mrs. wagon: LOL yeah, I think he felt like it was a lose-lose...either he eats in front of me and I'm pissed or he eats in the cafeteria and I complain that he's gone too long. I actually wasn't even hungry because the pitocin made me really nauseous, but I was all "it's the principle of the matter!" And this is with an epi...can you imagine how I would've been without one?!

There was nothing big, but there was one thing my husband DIDN'T do that I wanted him to: call the freaking nurse so she could call the anesthesiologist and get me an epidural. I was in the hospital for hours and hours and was totally ignored because (apparently) my doctor and the nurse kept having emergency C-sections--3 in a row. And you know, stuff happens, but shouldn't they have more than 1 freaking nurse on a shift??
Anyway, I kept begging him to go to the nurse's station and get someone, but he was fine waiting. Well, I was NOT fine waiting more hours, so finally my mom went and demanded someone come in and check on me.
My mom has had 6 kids and has been telling everyone that my hospital "totally ignored" me and that we did it all ourselves. lol. It's kind of true, up until my epi.

DH was really good. The only thing that bugs me, thinking back, was that he was below, watching everything and helping with my legs when I told him I didn't want him there. When it was all happening I didn't care/notice, but now I'm all like "dammit, we talked about that!"

DH worked on his laptop during my labor, which was fine with me because I got an epidural pretty early and just wanted to relax and watch TV.
However, he did get a sandwich at one point and brought it back to the room to eat. The visitors couch was near the end of the bed, and right as he got back to the room , the Dr came in to break my water. DH got a front row view of the gush right as he was taking his first bite….hahaha!

DH didn't do anything that pissed me off, but home boy made himself super comfortable on the couch/bed (laid out his pillows, blankets, brought out his ipad, etc. and got comfy) before I even got into my bed after changing into the hospital gown.

Haha...some of these would really have pissed me off too. My MIL asked my husband to go out for lunch (cafeteria not good enough for her?) while I was labouring. Wtf? I delivered 20 minutes after she asked him/he declined.
My annoying thing is that my hubs was so excited that he couldn't stop smiling, I'm hurtin' and labouring and he's smiling the whole time. Gah!

DH was pretty good, but he was bale to sleep and I just couldn't, even after the epi. I tried, but nerves got the best of me. I was starving so he ate out in the hallway which was nice of him. I think the most annoying part is I wa sin so much pain after my c-section and he was sleeping like a baby while I was crying wanting more drugs! ha I think I was so overly tired I coudln't sleep even though I had been up for over 24.

It was after labor.
I hadn't eaten since 7pm the day before and it was 9:40pm and I asked him to hold my cup of water to my lips and he kept rushing me like "jeez how much are you going to drink?" And I was literally like "I am fucking starving and thirsty. Shut up" he was surprised but honestly, I needed food so bad at that point and no one seemed to understand my urgency.

DH was pretty great, though I was just annoyed in general with everyone since our parents popped into say hello some, too. At one point, my mom and DH were just chit chatting (not even loudly), and I said, "If you want to talk, you both need to go to the waiting room." I have NO idea why I was so pissy except that I had raging pitocin contractions that were doing zero good down south. Yikes.
The food thing--I made DH and my parents go get something to eat so I could have some time to myself in the room (see above peevy labor personality) and because I didn't want anyone eating in front of me. I said something about that the other day, and DH said, "Wait, why didn't we bring you something? You mean you didn't get to eat the whole time??" He's an observant one, that one is...

While I was in early labor-- like we weren't 100% sure this was it, but it probably was-- we had an hour long conversation about whether or not he should go and play golf, at a course an hour and a half away. Since it might not even be real labor, and even if it is, I probably wouldn't have the baby before he got back. And you know, his friend (C's godfather!) had already paid the greens fees.
He did not go play. I did not have the baby until after he would have been home, but it was still the right decision to stay with your wife while she is working on giving birth to your first born and all.

He slammed on the brakes for a red light when he wasn't paying very good attention on our way to the birth center the second time. I was on my hands and knees on the rear bench seat (7cm at this point), and I fell off the seat. I was so pissed.
Other than that he was super awesome.

@Foodnerd81: It's great how things have changed! My Grandfather always used to tell me how when his first son was born he was at work and he just got a phone call informing him it was a boy. But by the time his second son (my dad) was born he had to actually be at the hospital! Geez, what a hassle.

Nope! Dh was awesome. I even encouraged him to eat since I knew he wouldn't be able to. He did fall asleep but so did I.

No, he was so good. I know he had to have been starving because he's a big eater but he was SUCH a trooper. I kept telling him to eat something or to take a break if he wanted to (we brought snacks) but he didn't want to eat if I wouldn't eat and he said he didn't want to miss anything.

Generally, he was a great labor coach, but looking back I was a little aggravated when he kept saying that he hoped it wasn't real labor since he was tired. He also did not drive fast enough for my liking. Car contractions are no fun. I told him if they sent me home we were just going to have to go a different way because there was no way in hell Iw as going to take the exit curve again.

Considering I was in labor for 51 hours I thought I had a lot of patience. The only thing that pissed me off was out of DH's control When we went to the hospital the there was no parking in the 'stork' parking lot. DH had to go back out to the street and make a U-turn to get back into the other parking lot. The U-turn was mid-contraction and I just screamed at DH.
The other thing he did didn't really bother me. He brought my recovery bag to labor instead of my laboring bag. I told him right away he had the wrong bag but he didn't believe me. Every time I asked for something I had packed he would tell me it wasn't there, this bag only has baby clothes with a bewildered look on his face. I didn't get mad because he was clearly frazzled.

He was awesome, but my judgment was clouded due to back labor, and I was a BITCH.
I told him he was standing in the way of my water in the shower, yelled at him for telling me to relax, yelled at him for telling me to calm down, and told him I felt like he was a terrorist and that I was in a hostage situation... because he wouldn't let me ask for an epidural. Poor guy. heh.

He kept saying "you can do it" like he was coaching a sporting event. For some reason it drove me nuts, but I didn't have the heart to tell him to stop it in the moment. I told him months later that I wanted more quiet the next time around.
