My go to is always photo gifts. It's not quite DIY, but photo albums or personalized photo calendars have always been a hit.

Do you want to do some kind of handprint/footprint thing? Those DIY garden stones are very popular!
There are a ton of things I wanted to do, but never got around to, like turning a footprint into a lobster and and getting it glazed on a serving platter.

We did ceramic hand print ornaments the year she was an infant. Actually I think it ended up being a foot print because she wouldn't unclench her fist. Either way is cute. You can buy kits on Amazon that have clay and a ribbon.

My family has a tradition that the kids make something for gifts each year. Her first Christmas we made a Rudolph from her footprint. Last year a Christmas tree, she glued the poms on. This year we are going to do snowman. For all I bought little 5x7 canvas boards and did them on that. People can put then on the tree, I glue ribbon on, or can hang them on the wall.

My niece and nephew have made me hand painted/finger painted mugs and vases. My sis bought ceramic mugs and glass vases with some special paint stuff to make it food-safe.

We did coasters last year. We bought small ceramic tiles (unglazed), put felt on the bottoms and K's handprint on top, then sealed them with clear coat. They were easy and so cute!

@catlady: Ooh, I like the idea of a kit!
@Smurfette: Is there any specific paint you use for that or does it not matter?

Maybe a piece of art in a frame? I bet she'd feel pretty fancy to see her art in a frame like a real picture.
My son (22 months) is really obsessed with rocks so I'm going to wrap up some rocks from him to all our family members, but I don't think that's really what you're looking for.

@LindsayInNY: I use the cheap craft paint. It comes off her foot really easy.
