When people ring your doorbell do they ever ask if your parents are home? DH and I never encountered this living in the city but ever since we moved to this house people seem to wonder where our parents are! The pizza guy once said to DH that maybe his mom paid for the pizza...no, that would be me, his wife! Will this change at all once we have a LO?

Whenever hubs answers the door they always ask for his parents. He looks young. When I answer the door, they talk directly to me. I'm okay with it, but hubs always gets offended. When they ask for his parents, he always said, "They're not here" and shuts the door. LOL.

No, this has never happened to us. DH has a big beard, though, so he doesn't look young. And I guess I must not look young either. We're also always outside so the people in our neighborhood know that we live there and that we own the house.

Its never happened to me because we live out in the country and if someone rings our doorbell, we usually know them.
My grandma loves to tell this story. She is teeny tiny and always has been. I'm only 5', but she's 4'9"ish and she got married at 20. She had my mom at 22. When my mom was a baby, my grandma answered the door and the man said "Little girl, is your Daddy home?" She was sooo mad!

This has never happened to me, but I've lived in cities since graduating college, so I've always been about a normal age for having an apartment. By the time we buy a house, we'll probably be in our mid thirties, so I doubt anyone would ask us then.
The employer story?? Wow. Just... wow.

YES!! And I hate it. I tell them no because this is MY house! It makes me even more upset when they mumble under their breath that I must be a spoiled brat or something to have my parents buy me a house. Um, I worked my butt off to save for a house thank you very much. Sheesh!

This has never happened to me. But I only get carded when I take my son with me and buy alcohol.

We just bought a house - I wonder if this will happen to me! Now that I'm over 30, I'm delighted when people think I'm young, so I say bring it on!

@lilteacherbee: Haha I love that story about your grandmother! My grandmother had a very high, sweet voice and telemarketers always used to ask her if her mom was home (even when she was 94!), and she'd say "my mom is dead" and hang up.

Yes, I just tell people that I own the house and watch their expression.

This happened to my husband once! Someone came to the door to sell us lawn treatment or something and asked if his mom was home. He just said no and they left, so it was easier than having to actually deal with the salesperson!

This happens pretty frequently...basically any time the bell rings and it's not someone we know. It doesn't happen to my husband because he actually looks his age. I look really, really young. I usually just play along and have fun with it.

If a contractor comes by to try to sell me stuff I just tell them I'm renting. Then they leave me alone
