E is saying about 50 words but only about 15 are very clear. She is parroting but she doesn't annunciate the beginning or end of the word. Like, bike is ike or breakfast sounds like breakace. Should only the clear words be counted as real words?
She's 19 months, just to add. Should I be concerned that some words aren't easy for me to understand?

I think they count. My daughter is 21 months, and lots of her words aren't perfectly clear, but I know what they mean. She does have so many words now, and some of them sound the same, so sometimes it takes me a few tries to understand what she's trying to tell me. She lets me know when I finally get it though... and she basically rolls her eyes at me when I misunderstand what she's trying to say!

To me those are words for sure. IMO the key is using a word to represent an obect or action.

R's pedi said to count words even if they aren't perfect as long as she is saying the same thing every time. So it has the correct meaning. Ex. she says "mank me" for blankie and pedi counts it since pronunciation doesn't change

@lawbee11: I was just looking for that same thread to reference! I found what delight said to be so helpful. Most of my 15 month-old's words sound very similar.

I think so. My 16.5 month old was parroting avocado as a-co-do and I definitely counted it!
