Do you guys have a (non work funded) life insurance policy?
Would you mind sharing who it's with?

Yes, we do. I can't remember what companies they are with...we used Zander insurance and they come up with quotes from lots of places and you can either choose the cheapest or do research to choose if you have preferences other than costs. It was really easy.

Ours is work funded through DH's work, although we're looking to drop it and get one on our own but don't know where to start!

Yes, we both do. It's through Northwestern Mutual. Some term and some whole life.

Yes, when I was pregnant earlier this year we both bought life policies.
ETA: ours is through our credit union and the payments are set up as auto pay.

@Danizaur: it's quite daunting!
@Emsmems: interesting. I didn't know you can do a combo. I would prefer whole, which is not a set number of years, correct?

@RsMom: would you mind sharing why not? Feel free to message me. Thanks!

We both do. Our financial planner set up my husbands. My parents set mine up when I was a child.

@regberadaisy: We have mostly whole but term is cheap so our FP wanted us to get that as well while our kids are still young.

@regberadaisy: I'm an insulin dependent diabetic so it's very difficult to get approved because of the risk.

I have one through work but I pay for it (not sure if that's considered work-funded?). It's through Unum. DH has one but it's work-funded.

We both have policies through MetLife, and then we both have work funded policies as well.

Just DH through State Farm but I think we will switch to his work one in open enrollment because it's cheaper, like $2/month.

@lawbee11: I'm curious only because it doesn't go with you. I've had work policies in the past as well. But obviously have nothing now that I'm unemployed.

We both have one through northwestern mutual and I also have a plan through work that's one of my benefits.

@regberadaisy: Sometimes you can bundle life insurance with the same company you have your auto and/or home insurance with and it's cheaper.

We just got ours done. Mine is through Banner Life and my husband's is through Prudential. We have term life.

We both do and like @Mrs. Lion: we used Zander insurance to find the best deal.

@Mrs. Lion: @jhd: thanks, I'll check them out!

@regberadaisy: We both have life policies through our employers and my husband has a separate individual policy not thought his employer, which I believe is through Prudential.
Just an FYI, you can take work/employer-sponsored group life insurance policies with you when you leave your employer – you have the option to convert group life insurance to an individual policy when you leave your employer. You’ll pay a higher rate for an individual policy vs. the group (i.e., employer sponsored plan); but you can take life insurance coverages with you when you leave your employer. This is mandated by the state, not by specific employers, and different states have different timelines where you're eligible to convert your coverage, etc..
The New York Department of Insurance has mandated that individual whole and universal life policies are offered to employees converting from a group life to an individual life policy. Your employer should have given you notice of this when you left employment.

@RsMom: My husband is insulin-dependent as well but has a life-insurance policy through his work. I can find out the company if you are interested.

We both do, and they are both through Northwestern Mutual.

We both have policies, one through Genworth and one through Hartford. Our financial planner helped us choose the best coverage deals for us.

@avivoca: That would be great if they offer plans outside of the US, I'm in Canada.

We both do through Ohio National.
As an FYI to those who only have work plans - while you can convert them after you leave the company, what you have through your companies is considered term life, rather than whole life. Once you convert it, it will be far more expensive than what you pay for through work.

I think it's Minnesota Life. Our financial planner did a bid shop around and chose the best deal. We made sure our mortgage would be covered with both, but mine is cheaper and for less money.

Mutual of Omaha - we went with term policies for now, since we need a lot of coverage. We'll re-evaluate every 5-10 years or so, or with any major financial / life changes.

We each have a term and whole life with MetLife. In addition to work policies. I almost wasn't able to get it due to the breast cancer in my family (grandma, mom, sister at 23).

We both have insurance through work for us and the kids, then separately we have life and critical illness through our FP, and CI for the girls.

We both do. I have term and he has whole life and term. We have it through Met Life. The amount covers the amount of our mortgages at our home and part of the rental.
