I decided to chat with my phone company today to see if there was a way I could get my cell phone bill lowered, since we are trying to cut costs. Surprisingly they were able to lower it down to $87 per month, down from $126. This helps us out a lot, every bit we can save per month helps. I may try and see what some other companies (internet/cable) can do for me later this week. It seems after promotional periods end the bill just keeps going up and up!

Yep! I recently called Verizon! Ended up with the same plan, but with some extra gigs of data and we're saving $40/month now! Woot!

I have! Verizon FiOS is the only one I can never get to lower my bills. So I just check their promotions and change our packages every so often.

I only call our internet provider when our bill goes up. Basically, the bill spike reminds me the promotional extension has ceased. Our internet service has not improved in the last four years, so they don't hassle me too much when I ask for them to extend the rate. We only get 12 bps in my area.

Yep!! I've had my cable/internet bill lower many times over the years. Saves so much money to just ask!

Our cell phone is very high but my brother has a cellular store. So our plan actually no longer exists, we have a nationwide discount on it too! Everything that's out is less minutes, data for more money!

Yeah I just called time warner and they bumped our speed and dropped our bill. The rep told me we should call monthly!!!! Because their deals change that often.

I think we are going to just cancel cable! I hate the company and there isn't many options (small town). We will just get one of those android boxes. Have you looked into those? My mom and in laws swear by them and have cancelled cable.

Yes.i usually ask about cancelling the service and they immediately offer a discounted rate.

We did that with our internet bill. And I bought a purse off of Amazon a month ago, only to see it go down in price by $12 on the same exact link, in the next few days. They price matched it via email request I sent!
They said something about valuing their long term customers. -

I have tried to get my credit card interest rate lowered with no success. I don't know what people say that makes it happen, lol, but I don't even carry a balance, so maybe that's why, they're not making any money on me.

I have called and had our cable/internet bill lowered a couple of times, but recently they haven't been very helpful. The last time I called, about a month ago, they totally called my bluff when I threatened to cancel. We are actually going to cancel soon because what we are paying is outrageous. Comcast is the devil.

Well, for the first four years of living here, we paid for an internet only package. When we moved, we had to call in order to transfer service, and the representative threw in a year of free cable in order to entice us into paying for it once the deal e was up. Once there was up, we were able to extend it for another 6 months for free, and then they would not continue giving us the deal so we cancelled that. Their plan did not work
We have tried to get hospital and car insurance bills lowered to no avail. We have not tried with any others. Based on this thread, I would probably try with a cell phone contract, but we are still on our parents plans and just paying them for our lines

Yes, I just did Verizon and cable/internet company. I was able to lower our cable/internet bundle by 80 bucks a month! it was a huge savings, I threatened to quit (which I was honestly prepared to do because I think the service sucks, but now with the price, I know I can't beat it anywhere else.)

@Bao: no joke, look into another company and be prepared to quit...as soon as you say "we want to discount" it's crazy the amount of "working" they are willing to do! I straight up said "we are switching to XYZ because they are cheaper" and what do you know they lowered less than that deal

This thread has inspired me to try. Pretty soon, Xfinity is going to raise our bill to include my soul.

We used to do the bidding between U-Verse and Xfinity and change/upgrade packages every few months, but it was time consuming and it still was just a huge expense every month. SO we dropped cable completely. We got Apple TV for a Christmas present and subscribed to Hulu/Netflix/NHL TV instead. Between that and Amazon Prime Video, there's really nothing more we need and it save us SO MUCH MONEY. We pay for super high speed Internet through U-Verse because DH needs it for work, but he business expenses it, so we don't really pay for that. I think our channel subscriptions run us about $40.
With our Verizon bill, we found that both of our employers each had employee discounts so I have 15% off my line and DH has 10 or 15% off his line too. Mine also offers me 25% off on accessories. Last time I upgraded my phone I also found that the cellular store I went to get my phone from offers its own insurance coverage that was cheaper and better than Verizon's, so I went with them instead (and have used it to replace my phone twice!)
DH usually has our insurance agent bid around for better life, disability, and malpractice insurance rates every year and so far we've either gotten the rate down every year or we've gotten better coverage at the same price. Its a no brainer for us since is the agent who has to do the work. They'll usually give us a call or mail a letter 2 months before our annual renewal is due and my husband will call and say find me a better deal. I'm sure we could get cheaper phone lines through other providers, but we just prefer Verizon for cell phone coverage so we pay the premium for that.

Only when a promotional offer ends and the bill goes up. We just did with Time Warner internet and got our bill lowered by $15 a month.
