Like a SUV, mini van etc? We have 2 cars - an SUV and a sedan. DH drives the SUV and everyone makes fun of him that he drives the mom car.

@Andrea: I do now. I drive an SUV. Papa Jumper drives a Subaru Impreza. We almost never take his car anywhere together as a family.

@mrs. bird: me toooo! I won't even be a mama 'til February, but I've had my Pacifica since college.

We have a Jeep Patriot and I HATE it. I guess it could be considered a mom/family car because it's a small SUV.

My husband and I are waiting a bit to venture into the "mom car" scene. I drive a BMW 3-series sedan. It's tiny though. We will need the bigger vehicle sooner than later I think

I drive a Civic but I want a mom
car like a wagon or SUV!

I don't drive a mom car, but I kinda wish I did! I'm dreading the switch from the infant car seat to the rear facing convertible - I'm going to have to pretzel myself into my tiny backseat to strap LO in.

We have a very old Lexus SUV and a relatively new Toyota sedan. We just got the sedan and my husband cringed, defining it as the official mom car. Fast forward a week later, he is actually the Camry is 'his' car. It's cleaner, newer and we sold his car to help fund it. I'm so used to the SUV, so he gets the mom car.

An SUV is a mom car too? I drive a wagon and my husband has a convertible. I like driving the wagon.

I used to make fun of dh because he had a mom car. It was just a 4 door car. Now I'm in a mini van and he drives my sporty little 2 door.

@BoogieBea: We didn't feel like his SUV was that mom-ish but I guess most moms do cart their kids around in gas guzzlers so I guess it is ....

I drive a crossover (Toyota Venza) I actually see more old people driving them than moms. But I don't care. I love my car and think it will be perfect for us when LO gets here.

Nope. I have a Mazda 3. My husband has a Camry.

I don't, but I'm dreaming about it! My future mom car wishlist: Odyssey, Highlander, or Pilot. LO's carseat is already taking a ton of space in my sedan, so it might be sooner than later!

@Arden: Have you seen the 'Swagger Wagon' videos? They are pretty funny. I work with a former Toyota car salesman and he made me watch them one (slow) day. Super funny.
My husband drives a truck and I have a Pontiac G6. I think my next car might be an SUV though. I have friends with 2 kids and 2 car seats in cars like Malibus and it just feels so claustrophobic! I'm also pretty tall, so I think I'll run out of legroom with car seats in the back of my car.

I drive a prius.Looking to get an infiniti qx56 soon!
nectarine / 2886 posts
Hmm I didn't realize SUVs were considered mom cars! I guess I do then! I got the Lexus SUV about a week before our LO arrived.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Nope, I have a pontiac g6 that i'm going to trade in for a ford edge or another midsized SUV which apparently is a mom car?

I have a Ford Escape and DH has a Chrysler 300. I don't really consider either a mom car but maybe they are. We'll be looking at either minivans or 3rd row SUVs before #2 arrives.

We have a Subaru hatchback (not a wagon), a VW Jetta TDI sedan, and an extended cab pick up. I actually wish I had a mom-car. I would love a wagon - either a Subaru Outback or a VW Jetta Wagon. I would love the extra space.

I drive a toyota highlander - kind of a mom car, but lots of other people drive 'em too I LOVE it!!
honeydew / 7230 posts
We don't even have kids yet, but I feel like a drive a mom car. It's an Audi Q7 which is about the size of some of the minivans in the parking lot at work. And somehow without any kids, we still manage to fill the whole thing up when we go somewhere with just the dogs!

Yep, traded in my trusty old Sunfire for my Nissan Rogue (small suv). When I got pg. right before she was born DH traded in his 2 door ford ranger for a VW Passat. We have 2 mom cars!

Everyone jokes that my VW Jetta Sportwagen is a Mom car, but really me and my husband both love wagons.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I drive a subaru impreza which I love, but am worried it won't fit kids when they arrive. Why don't you use it for family trips? Is it not big enough?
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
Nope, but we plan to get one once we have more kids!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
Haha, I don't consider an SUV to be a mom car, but a minivan or a wagon, yes. We have none of the above right now, we drive a sedan and it's a PITA with the gear and car seat!
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: our Graco carrier/car seat barely fit in the back. The bucket seats made it difficult to install, and it only fit in the center -- which is OK because we want our seats in the center, but we'd never be able to install a second seat for future kids.
We just upgraded Baby Jumper to the Britax Boulevard and it doesn't even fit. Papa Thinks it would fit FF, but we're a long ways away from FF.
The trunk space is also an issue. Our stroller doesn't even fit in there, though we think an umbrella stroller might. Regardless, we couldn't fit our luggage and her toys plus a stroller, so... We bought a Ford Edge.

No plans to get a 'mom' car, but I do plan on getting a 4-door sedan instead of my current Hyundai 2-door hatchback. I really don't NEED a new car, but Mr Worm thinks a 2-door would be a nightmare with a baby...so I'm looking at getting either a Mazda3 or (if we get raises, lol) a 4-door Golf GTI. I like em sporty
I don't want to threadjack, but do any of you ladies have a regular cab (as in, 2 seater) truck that you use to cart around baby? I'm a bit worried about putting a car seat in my husband's Ranger
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
Yep - bought it on purpose. It is a crossover SUV (Mercury Mariner which is the exact same car as the Ford Escape)
pomegranate / 3716 posts
I never thought of an SUV as a mom car!! We got a BMW X5 a few years ago (used and at a GREAT deal) and we love it... that one is considered "DH's car". "My car" is a Infinity MX sedan, which I think is more "mom-ish" than the SUV (and has horrible gas mileage!!).
We're considering down sizing to one car to save some money, and I think it makes more sense to keep the SUV because it has really come in handy to move things and to transport our dog. However, my parents gave us the Infinity last year, and I feel bad selling that one (I gave my little sister my Honda Civic coupe, my dad gave me his Infinity, and he got a new Lexus, haha) Not sure what we'll do yet...

Yep! We traded my VW Jetta in for a new Outback and absolutely love it! We still have DH's Honda Civic that we use to commute but the Outback will be our main car once the baby is here.

my husband has the subaru forrester and i have a car any 17 yr old would lovea kia soul

I have a Toyota Sequoia and it's a massive SUV (seats 8 comfortably and with plenty of leg space). We bought it to transport supplies for the shop though, not necessarily with kids in mind since we bought it over 3 years ago.
