A bunch of bees got into our house yesterday and DH killed them like a crazy man with an oven mitt.
My friend is upset because we didn't trap and release them outside. Maybe next time!

I haven't killed a bee since I married one!
I do kill insects in the home though, especially mosquitoes and cockroaches.

Mosquitoes and ants are dead meat! Spiders and the occasional lost butterfly gets escorted to an open window. Bees, hornets or anything flying that stings, either get swatted or let out (because I don't want to get stung).

Spiders get relocated. Things I am too afraid of to kill get ignored until someone else will deal with it. All else gets smushed.

If they're by the sliding door to go out I try to shoo them back out, otherwise... Sorry!

I try not to kill anything Spiders generally get moved outside (my grandpa used to tell me over and over how important spiders are, and it stuck with me), and we don't have a lot of other bugs in the house except the occasional fly or mosquito... Those are just left to die on their own.

@sorrycharlie: hahah, yeah the hives were outside our windows and front door so i couldn't shoo them out!

@mrbee: your reply was adorable!
Depends for me, some things like moths & beetles i will release. Other things like spiders dont last long in a house full of 4 legged furry kitty friends. They usually end up as tasty snacks.

For sure, if one gets in it's toast. DS loves finding them on our windows though (on the outside) and looking at them. He sometimes explains that they are "crawling like a baby".

Absolutely! DH and I argue over who is going to kill the latest bug in our house. Pretty much nothing gets relocated unless it's a ladybug.
pear / 1846 posts
No, if they are flying insects (therefore annoying) I let them out otherwise I just ignore them. I think DH would kill everything though, it annoys me as I don't want spider blood on my wall!

Yes! But I hate killing bees and spiders...I have some major fears! I usually open the door to let flies out of the house since it's too much work to track them down.

We get the occasional moth in our house, and I always shoo those outside.
As for spiders, centipedes, and other creepy crawly bugs, those die!

No way am I trying to shoo a bee outside unless I think that will be easier than killing it. Death to all of the insects!!! Or the ones in my house, at least.

I am such a softie. I kill ants, but feel majorly guilty about it. I relocate most everything else. Mosquitos are the only ones I don't feel bad about killing.

Trap & release insects? Hehe I am a bleeding heart but not quite that much! We have Terro traps for the ants, and I will leave small spider webs if they aren't near sleeping areas and have dead ants in them, but any other bugs get killed :x I would just let bees out but my husband HATES bees so if he sees one, I have to kill it (he will fumble around with a shoe trying to kill it where I am a one-hit-KO kind of insect killer lol so I do the bee-swatting)

If the insect is flying right by the door I will try to shoo them out but I'm no bug wrangler so I certainly kill if they don't cooperate.
persimmon / 1404 posts
The only insects I will kill are wasps, and that's because I hate them. I just put everything else outside.
kiwi / 661 posts
it depends on the insect. Some I'm OK with catching and releasing. Some things put me in a panic and my husband has to show me the body before I believe it won't eat my in my sleep. I'm not a fan of bees. I get that honey bees are a precious dying resource, but I really can't handle existing in the same space with them. I leave when it is outdoors, they die when it is indoors.
