I don't know any unvaccinated kids

In my area kids can't attend daycare, preschool, or anything unvaccinated. I don't think I know anyone in real life that hasn't had their vaccinations. At most, people delay them or space them out a little more, but they get them eventually.

I don't know any. All her daycare friends are vaccinated because they have to be. I guess there could be kids in her gymnastics class who aren't? But all of my friends vaccinate their kids.

I don't think we know any. We're in NYC suburbs.

I know a few that don't live near us. My old coworker is obsessed with hating big pharma.

I think most of the friends we are close to are vaccinated - but I don't bring it up because I have very strong feelings about it.

I think we know one family who doesn't vaccinate (they haven't said it outright, but I'm pretty certain), and a few who are on a delayed vax schedule. K hangs out with them at church- I'm not really concerned because she has her vaccines.

Only about 5% of kids in our area are not vaccinated. I'm guessing that over 50% are doing a slower schedule.

I only know 1 family that is skipping all vaccines.

I know the news will have us all think that so many people are not vaccinating, but I just don't think it's that big. Even in Oregon, 93% of school age children have received the MMR (which is the one that a lot of people are trying to delay).

@Mrs. Oatmeal: People think we don't vaccinate, but we do. I have another friend who only shares anti-vax stuff (because she wants there to be a conversation), but her kiddos are fully vaxed. And I agree, I am concerned overall (about allll of the kids), but not so much for my kid, because she's had her vaccinations.

I just saw a report that our state has one of the highest un-vax rates, which really surprised me (and worried me). I don't know anyone who doesn't vaccinate, but I'm guessing we come into contact every day with unvaccinated kids. You have to be fully vaccinated to attend LO's daycare, which I'm now extra thankful for.

Also, I'd be interested to know how many people have these conversations with their friends (in real life).

This seems like such an internet thing. Blah. My FB feed is full of vaccine posts, and it's just getting old at this point. Talk with your doctor!!

My cousin's kids aren't vaccinated.

I don't *think* I know any, but I guess I haven't asked them all! Most of the my friends' kids all go to the same Ped practice I go to, and there you have 2 choices (but both fully vaxxed). One is the regular schedule and on is a slightly delayed schedule.

My LO did slightly delayed (just did fewer shots more often) and is all caught up now at 18 months.

I probably know more who don't vaccinate than those who do.

Not that I know of. People don't normally talk about it.

None. I wouldn't socialize regularly with a family that was unvaccinated, unless they were immunocompromised. And probably even not then, just out of courtesy since we've been coming down with a lot of bugs lately!

@littlejoy: our group of friends most definitely has these conversations. Just as we talk about car seat safety, food allergies, and diapers.

Yes several. It's interesting that some here feel they are too high and mighty to associate with "that kind". As I've said it before, my child can't get certain vaccines due to medical reasons. And she gets most of her sicknesses from my fully vaccinated nephew, including rotavirus which he was vaccinated for.

@brownie: That's awesome that your friends take part in real dialogue about parenting! I guess I don't talk about parenting much with my friends. A lot of us were friends before having kids, so maybe that makes a difference?

I am pretty passionate about the things you listed, and I do have some friends that I discuss with (fellow car seat safety mom (ha, what if that's what I called her?), another fellow mom who has similar dietary restrictions as us, and other cloth diapering mamas), but yeah, vaccines just aren't a big conversation piece.

This probably sounds bad (because, the internet), but I just don't think it's anyone's business. When my babe was really tiny, we stayed home if I was concerned about other kids or people being around. Once she was vaccinated, I was confident going out and about. For people who are more passionate about it, I imagine it is a conversation.

With that said, your sister's sweet kiddos?! My heart aches for that mama. So much strength! For parents of immunocompromised children, this is an entirely different issue, and I imagine it's absolutely normal to have the conversation with every parent in your tribe. -- Anyone who took offense to wanting to have that conversation wouldn't be worth having around!

@anonysquire: I don't think anyone here is "high and mighty". I think people here are concerned about their children being exposed to diseases/illness.

As a mama of a child with medical issues preventing vaccines, I'm surprised you aren't more in favor of herd immunity (by way of healthy kids being vaccinated). Maybe you are?

While I don't have these talks with my friends, I do think it's a valid conversation for parents who are concerned.

ETA: Is there a cultural or religious reason why you know so many people who aren't vaxed? Just curious. I live in a hippie mecca, and only know 1 family who doesn't vax.
