@Tanjowen: We haven't let her play in the front yard in just a diaper, but more because there just hasn't been a time where that's happened. I wouldn't flinch seeing a kid playing in a diaper. My kids are usually in various states of undress around the house.

Whether of not I would put DS out front in just a diaper is immaterial. Repeatedly making negative comments about someone else's appearance is just plain rude. What are they worried about, their property value?

I don't really like to let my own kid out in the yard with just a diaper due to sun exposure. But I probably wouldn't think much of anyone letting their kids play that way. I do think it's weird for someone else to comment on it.

No way! And I'm not modest either. There are too many creepy people in this world!
Inside the house with no visitors, anything goes. Outside the house, clothes or a swimsuit!

Unless your kid is like 16, then why is anyone commenting on it? Weirdos.

In the house sure. Outside? Never. But then again I always dress DD nicely when leaving the house. One time DH took her out for a stroll around the neighborhood in PJs and I was totally mortified.

Sometimes inside. I wouldn't be opposed to it outside in our yard, but just can't think of a time it happened. But, I don't think it's a big deal and think it's kind of odd your neighbor's were commenting on it.

Never. Not even in the house.
There's no particular reason, it just isn't for us.

DS is usually 'only' in a diaper after a bath or if I'm in the process of getting him dressed/changed and he runs off. He might make it onto our gated-deck in just his diaper but I probably wouldn't let him run around like that for any longer period of time.

Wow, I'm way surprised by the nos! I would and have and will let my kids run around in just a diaper. That does not equal naked to me in the slightest!

I hate the just-diaper look but it has happened inside the house and in our backyard. We don't do just diapers in the front yard or in public, though. If I saw a kid playing in someone's driveway in just a diaper, I wouldn't think twice...I'd figure the payoff of the tantrum wasn't worth it.

I wouldn't do it. Just not for us. I would never dream of saying anything to anyone else who does...but I might wonder what's the deal.

We don't do it, but I would never comment on it. I live in a city so it would seem strange I think.

Only inside or on the beach, but I don't think it's a big deal. I just don't want them to get cold or sunburned.

All the time. We spent all last summer at the playground in only diapers bc of the sprinklers and water play areas. One of the perks of being a child, as far as I'm concerned!

@Tanjowen: Not to that point yet but yes, I certainly would. If anyone had a problem with that they can get a life.

This will be our first summer when DD is old enough to "run around" so I don't know yet if we'd do this, but I don't really see why we'd have an issue. Lots of people set up kiddie pools out front on the sidewalk or courtyard when it's hot - nobody has A/C so kids are wearing as little as possible during any heatwaves that may hit.
I also wonder if there's a difference for people who use cloth diapers. I had DD in nothing but a cloth diaper for most of last summer when it was 85+ inside and outside, and it seemed a lot closer to actual clothing than a paper diaper does.
Regardless, your neighbors harping on it was weird and rude.

I have a reflux baby, who throws up constantly! So if we're at home he's only in a diaper. Inside or out.
