We do. But I'm wondering if we stop will it cut down on the dust/dirt on the floors? We have dogs that go in and out though and I live in the desert so some is inevitable.

Do you wear shoes in your home?

I don't, I just prefer being barefoot. DH does though, and it kind of drives me crazy, he's always leaving scuff marks on the kitchen floor.

If I wear anything it's usually flip flops just to have something comfy on my feet.

I don't but I don't mind if others do. But for some reason that makes people think it is okay to put their shoes on my couch so I've started telling those people to take their shoes off

Flip flops (ones I only wear at home), socks (if I my feet are cold) or barefeet. I also take my shoes off at other people's homes.

We don't wear shoes in the house & hardly ever need to clean our floors!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Well we wear them in the house (wish we were better about removing them before coming in) but we immediately take them off, we prefer being barefoot/socked.

Yep. We get scorpions in the house and it has made me super paranoid about going barefoot We have all laminate/tile floors so I don't feel too bad about stomping through in my flip flops lol

Yes but I want to stop now that we have LO. Though we have a dog so it's slightly pointless.
bananas / 9357 posts
Yes and no. I usually wear them into the house and take them off shortly. We have tile in all the main living areas so I don't think it's a big deal to walk around there with shoes on. But I don't like shoes on any carpet or rugs.

Sometimes. If it's been a while since I've cleaned the floors and I know I'm going to clean them soon, I'm not as vigilant about removing my shoes right away. If I've just cleaned the floors, I take my shoes off as soon as I get in and put on slippers, and I tell everyone else to take them off too. I always take my shoes off at other people's houses just in case.

I had this talk with co-workers once.
I am normally barefoot but one of my co-workers told me that I should at least wear socks if I have carpet because the oils from my feet would put more wear and tear on my carpet than shoes would. It was years that he told me that and I still am normally barefoot.

Yes, most of the time. But I think it's due to having laminate and tile- it's not really comfortable to go barefoot. I used to do so more in IN when we had mostly carpet. I don't know how much it cut down on dirt being tracked in. I think not wearing shoes in the house really helps with allergens, but only if you have carpet.

We usually take them off shortly after we get home, but still walk through the house before we do it. Now that we are in our new apartment, and it actually has a little bit of an entry way, we are going to get a bench by the front door and have a no shoes policy, just in time for baby. We won't go crazy, but I think most people, when they see a bunch of shoes by the door and know you have a baby, will get the hint. We haven't started it yet since it's still a mess with moving boxes.
Walking around it's usually barefoot, socks, or slippers.

Nope, I prefer being barefoot at home. DH sometimes wears shoes inside and it drives me nuts. He gets dirt everywhere!

We don't, and we wipe the dogs feet (with sensitive baby wipes) every single time she comes in after a walk. I'm crazy about keeping our carpets clean because our house is so small that you can really see wear patterns if I don't make a concentrated effort to keep them clean Plus, who knows what the dog walks in when she's outside, so I feel like there's less potential germs/allergens in the house, too.

We do, but we don't keep them on long after we've come home.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
We don't wear them in the family room and try to remember to take them off when we come inside. It's hard to take your shoes off, walk to the back door, put them back on and take the dog out, though... Logistics win over taking the off most of the time other than the family room.

Never. Shoes in the house drives us bonkers and even more so with a LO that is constantly picking stuff off the floor.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Nope! But the hubby likes to take off his shoes in the house sometimes and it drives me bonkers because he treks in large pieces of dirt sometimes.

We don't wear shoes at home, and it kind of bothers is when guests come in and don't take off their shoes. Shoes bring in a lot of dirt

I do, DH never does. I grew up in a shoes on house where as DH grew up in a shoes off house.
pomelo / 5820 posts
Never. My mom neeevvver let us wear shoes in the house growing up. DH wore them in the house growing up, but he hasn't since he met me!
pomegranate / 3809 posts
Nooo, never. I even hate it when I put my shoes on and forget something in the house. I usually take the shoes back off to go grab it. Just something that grosses me out about tracking whatever I step on out there all over my floors.
nectarine / 2771 posts
Nope, just socks, slippers, or barefoot. It stays cleaner that way!
nectarine / 2274 posts
It's a big no no in our culture to wear shoes into your home. We take them off in the garage.
bananas / 9973 posts
No. I hate it. We were raised with "no shoes inside", but my own DH does not abide by my rules. It drives me batty!
