I'm having a debate with my SIL. Anytime I've moved growing up (8 times), we took the fridge with us from house to house. She says that the fridge stays with the house.
Settle this for us! Oh, and list where you live because she thinks that plays a role

When selling a house, it just depends what you've negotiated in your contract.
With renting,if you brought it with you, it's yours to take if you want.

We bought our fridge, so if we move, it's definitely going with us. Most of the house listings we see have an empty space for a fridge. I think your SIL loses this one

There's no one answer to this question, it just depends on if the homeowners want to take it with them or not. Where we live the homeowners took their washer and dryer, but left their kitchen appliances, so we already had a fridge and left the old one in our home when we sold it as a perk for the buyer. Where my parents live, just a few miles away, they had to purchase all new appliances because the previous homeowners didn't take anything.
In some situations it doesn't make sense to take your fridge with you - if you're looking to upgrade anyways then you leaving it is a perk to your buyers, or your fridge may not fit height/depth-wise in your new home.

It depends what is written into the offer/contract. If all appliances are listed, then yes. When we moved, we wanted to keep our fridge so we negotiated when we got an offer.

We own in Ontario, Canada. Usually all appliances stay with the house. Some cases are unique though, like if you had just bought all new appliances and wanted to take them, that would be clear in the listing that certain appliances were not included.
We bought brand new, so we had to provide our own.

Yeah. it depends on the seller and what they want. From all my experiences and home shopping (TOO MUCH!), the fridge generally stays.

Either way can be written into a contract. In TX we have a non realty items addendum and appliances are listed there if they stay with the house.

Either way is acceptable as long as it's written into the offer, but what is considered "normal" seems to be a regional thing.
Here in Wisconsin it almost always stays, I think a buyer would find it a little strange to have it written in the contract that the fridge doesn't stay, but like I said, that's here in WI.

Fridges don't have to come, and if you want it to stay you have to make sure it is listed in the condition of sale. My house came with all appliances.

We live in the South. Most houses we looked at planned to leave the fridge. The one we bought she actually had it down to take it, but we requested it as part of our offer and she left it. I would not plan to take it with us. Either we'll replace it along with the stove and dishwasher because it doesn't match the appliances we'd like to have, in which case we'd leave it because it matches, or we'll leave it because it isn't our style. We only requested she leave it to save us the trouble and cost of finding a new one while dealing with moving and stuff as well.

Depends, but our house (CA) came with the (older) kitchen appliances. We had to buy our own washer and dryer.

Our house came with a fridge. But we just bought a new one in our old house which we now rent out so we switched them out so the older one is in the rental.

Fridge goes with you...that's always been my experience! I'm in AZ... The only appliances that stay are the range (or stove top + oven) and dishwasher. Also, the microwave if its built in.

Depends on how the contract is written. You can say appliances will convey or not convey. When you make an offer you can include appliances in the offer if it says they do not convey.

Everywhere I've lived (upstate NY, Philly, and Seattle), normal practice is that it stays with the house...but I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions! Personally, I wouldn't want to lug a fridge from place to place so I'd leave it.

It depends. You need to stipulate in your contract what fittings and fixtures and appliances will and will not be included with the house in your negotiations.

Depends if you love it. We're buying a place, and the MLS listing said the range stays, but didn't mention the fridge. We're curious to find out if they're leaving it.
If I buy a super awesome fridge that I love and put it in a house I'll sell, if I still love the fridge, it's going with me. Same with my stove and all.

Most houses sell with appliances included. It makes it easier for both parties. Nicer appliances will be a bigger draw for some people who want a move in ready house. I live on the east coast.

I think most people in Seattle leave their appliances when they sell the home but occasionally they want to take them and don't include them as part of the sale, particularly if they are moving into a new construction home since those don't typically include appliances.

To me it is a toss up and completely up to the seller. We are budgeting to have to buy a fridge when we buy a house because we know it might not have one. When my parents move they take the fridge with them.

It really depends! If I paid handsomely for nice stainless steel appliances - yeah I've probably take them with me. If it was the fridge that came with the house and was old and such, then no, I wouldn't take it.
I'm in a rental so this has never been an issue but when we were house hunting we looked at several houses that had no appliances whatsoever.

Did your family rent or buy 8 times?
In NYC rentals, the landlord is required to provide a fridge. Under CA law, the fridge is considered an "amenity" and we had a hard time finding a house for rent that came with a fridge.
In my and my family's experience with NYC sales, the fridge and washer/dryer stays with the house. We just bought in CA and the owner had planned to take both but we got the new fridge in a counteroffer.

I voted that it goes with you, since it depends on the contract. However, when we were looking to buy/sell here in MD, we saw "all kitchen appliances included" in a lot of listings. We included ours with the house we sold, as two were included with the house we bought.

I'm on the east coast and vote stays. Unless the listing specifies appliances not included or specifically refrigerator or washer/dryer not included, the default is that it stays.

Where I am, its considered really strange if you take the fridge/appliances with you. You'd probably have to lower the asking price of the house if you weren't leaving them. HOWEVER, if I ever got my dream oven, or a really nice fridge, I'd probably try to take them with me.
Our house came with a massive French-door fridge, and I'm so glad that they left it!

Depends on the seller and buyer. When my family moved to Florida the home we purchased was less than three years old. The seller kept their fridge, washer and dryer. We left all the appliances in the DC house we moved from. My husband left all the appliances in the house he sold in VA. The house we bought together in FL had all the appliances. When we leave the appliances will stay.
