My city allows individuals to purchase and set off legal fireworks on the 4th of July. This is the only time of year that they're allowed. I know other parts of California they are banned completely.

I think do. My city already sent out a notice that illegal fireworks will be confiscated. I guess the legal ones are okay. I don't know the difference.

I think I voted wrong - do you mean individuals can set off fireworks, or that the city sets them off? Both states I've lived in (NY and MA) they're banned year round. But the cities always set them off.

@MrsCB: yeah, I meant individuals can buy and set off fireworks. I'll update the post to be more clear.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I know in California a lot of people bring in illegal ones from Mexico. They are usually the ones that shoot off in the air. Are there firework stands around your city? That probably means legal ones are ok.

Nope, they are illegal to set off in my city! The city puts on a show though.

Yup and I love it!! It's part of family "tradition" for us to set off fireworks!

I'm assuming it's legal.... they're sold everywhere here.

I'm pretty sure it's legal (KS). I've never done it though... maybe I should!
