Are you still on dairy elimination? From dealing with dairy allergy with my dd, I know slowed weight gain was something we saw around the time she was dx but it resolves when we eliminated the dairy. If you are on dairy elimination, there’s a 50% chance of soy allergy too; don’t know if you cut that also.

But - the percentile they start at isn’t the percentile they stay at. Just because you’re a long or heavy baby doesn’t mean you’ll be a tall or overweight adult - at some point a lot of kids leave their initial percentile. If your baby is happy and healthy and no signs of blood in stool, I would try not to worry (easier said than done!).

My daughter was born at the 89th %ile. She gradually dropped percentiles until she bottomed out at the 8th %ile at 8 or 9 months old, then grew and eventually settled on the 30-40th range (she's almost 4 now). Outside of some stuff when she was a newborn, the ped wasn't worried at all, she was growing consistently and just finding her curve. She was, and is, perfectly healthy.

My daughter was about 20-25%ile at birth and didn’t find her own curve until 6 months. She dropped curves from birth-6 months and has stayed there since then (she’s tiny - 3rd%ile) and she is almost 3 now. I think it takes them a little while to find their own growth curves. If your supply seems great, I would try not to worry!

My LO dropped from 30th at birth to 9th at 2 months. The pediatrician said I needed to pump and give him at least 4 bottles of at least 4 oz a day, to ensure he was getting enough. I consulted a private lactation consultant and it turned out he had a tongue tie. We fixed the tongue tie and he was back to 30th percentile at 4 months. However, there were other issues beyond the weight gain that indicated a feeding problem (constant clogged ducts, mastitis, taking forever at every feed, wanting to always be on the boob).

@CatchAFallingStar: My daughter dropped from 83% to 52% weight between her 2 month and 4 month visits. Her pediatrician had me add an extra feeding and she jumped back up to her growth curve pretty quickly. She's now in the 98th percentile for height and weight so she recovered just fine.

My son dropped at 4 months too, from around 40th to 15th percentile. The ped wasn't too concerned with a one-time drop because he still gained some weight and his height percentile stayed consistent. But at his 6 month appointment, he was down to the 5th percentile. I started giving him bigger bottles (went from 4 oz to 5 oz) when he was at daycare, and we also pushed solids more than I would have otherwise. At his 7 month weight check, he was up to 11th percentile, and he has continued to grow ever since then. I was also off soy and dairy during this time. My son stayed on the curve for height and was always content after nursing or bottles.

So as long as she is happy and still growing a little bit, try not to worry! Maybe you can ask for a weight check at 5 months?

This is exactly what happened to me with both of my kids. It was a bit worse with my second. By 9 months my second was maintaining the new, lower weight curve. Height and head have remained consistently 85% since birth, but weight dropped to 50% at 4 months and then 23% at 6 months. Ebf as well and started solids at 8.5 months. I pumped 3-4 oz of breastmilk in the morning and mixed it with baby cereal and fed that for breakfast after breastfeeding for 3 months after starting solids and I think that really helped this one continue with weight gain and maintain the lower curve.

I actually wish my doctor had ordered tests for my first because I did think there is some digestive/metabolic/some other issue and there still might be. I cried a few times about it in the first 1.5 years. I’m less worried with my second because the quantity of food consumed is much higher and overall he seems more sturdy physically.

It’s rough and does cause worry. I hope that any tests ordered by your doctor are helpful and it’s nothing and your kiddo maintains their new curve and is happy-that’s why my doctor hasn’t really done further tests, Milestones, mood, and sleep were always fine for my kids.
