i was wondering how all pregnant women seem to know which foods not to eat. so i googled it and found the "foods to avoid" list, and it seems pretty consistent across several sites.

i totally get the rule about limiting fish because of mercury. but what about the other rules, particularly about cooking meat and eggs and produce all the way? my guess is that they made the rules because most people shop at large chain supermarkets where you don't really know where your food comes from. but what if you live on your own farm (i don't) or shop at good farmer markets so you do know where your food comes from?

do you follow all the "foods to avoid" rules just to be on the safe side? or do you skirt the rules when you know you're getting clean food?
